Happy Veterans Day! How many teams are better than the Patriots right now? Are the Patriots a top 5 team? 🤔 Eagles, Rams, Chiefs? Who are the top contenders?!
Transcript
00:00But you were expecting a good one, though, last night.
00:02Oh, no, no, in general, last night probably was the game
00:05they were most looking forward to at ESPN.
00:07It just was nuts.
00:08Which is unfortunate, too, because I think Buck and Aikman
00:09are the best duo on television right now.
00:12I agree.
00:13I think that the Packers, like, and they were, like,
00:15one of my Super Bowl favorites.
00:17I think I even picked them to go to the Super Bowl.
00:19But I don't know with the Packers, man.
00:21I just can't get this team.
00:23There's a play in the game where Jordan loves getting sacked,
00:27and he's going down and decides, you know what,
00:29let me get rid of the football, you know, not even throw it.
00:32He's just like, yeah, I'm just going to put it up in the air
00:35and it's a turnover.
00:36That's like what we saw from Cam Ward.
00:38Yeah, and, you know, the Packers, they can get after it,
00:41like, defensively, but I just, unless it's me, I just,
00:44I can't get them.
00:46You know, I don't like, and so when, you know,
00:47when I sit there as a Patriots fan and I look at these football teams,
00:50like, who concerns me throughout the league,
00:53even if you are fortunate enough to get to the Super Bowl,
00:56do the Packers really concern you?
00:58No, I mean, I, if you, if you had to go down the list,
01:02I'm sure the Rams do, right?
01:05Yeah, the Rams.
01:06They're so good.
01:07But I just saw the Packers, though, like,
01:09you saw what Miles Garrett did against you,
01:13and Micah Parsons could be a major disruptor for the Patriots.
01:16Oh, yeah, he is.
01:17So, I mean, that would be a concern if he's, you know,
01:19getting after Drake May.
01:20Yeah, I guess you're right about that.
01:22Man, imagine if you could have got one of those guys.
01:25Why?
01:25He's like, why would you do that?
01:26He is so, like, I mean, every play,
01:29even if he doesn't make it to sack,
01:30he's in the backfield, and Jalen Hurts was stepping up or running.
01:34I mean, I guess the Rams, I would,
01:36I would definitely be concerned about.
01:39The Seahawks, I don't know about the Seahawks.
01:41I mean, I know they're playing well,
01:42but it's still a Sam Donald.
01:45I know.
01:45Yeah, I know.
01:46Also, the fact that you're only concerned about the,
01:50who you're going to face in the Super Bowl is a little bit alarming to me.
01:54Like, you've got to pump the brakes.
01:57Do I?
01:57Yes.
01:58Got to be excited.
01:58So what's the purpose of,
02:00all right, so would I just wait till, like, January to start talking?
02:04How many teams do you think today are better than the Patriots?
02:07Oh, that's a great question, Curtis.
02:08I love it.
02:09I'll definitely dive into that one with you.
02:11I mean, because I think the Eagles are a better team than the Patriots.
02:15All things being equal.
02:17You're looking, if you're being generous, you're a top five team.
02:20If you want to be somewhat homerish, you could be top four or three.
02:23Because I would say, like, Eagles, Rams, Seahawks.
02:27Colts, no.
02:27No, I would say Rams, Seahawks, NFC, except the Chiefs.
02:31I wouldn't say the Seahawks.
02:32Me either.
02:33I would not say the Seahawks.
02:33The Seahawks have the best defensive football.
02:35But I would, like, they're so good.
02:36But they're still, it's, I, listen,
02:39I love Jackson, Smith, and Jigba.
02:41But I don't know.
02:42That's awesome.
02:42I still, I'm Sam Donald.
02:44Your defense is getting better.
02:46I mean, it's not compared to some of the other defenses.
02:50But I wouldn't say Seattle.
02:51I'll give you the Rams.
02:52I'll give you the Eagles.
02:55Would you say it?
02:56Go ahead.
02:56Maybe Kansas City?
02:57Where would you put the Lions?
03:00Mmm.
03:01Because talent-wise, they are better than you.
03:03But I think you have the coaching edge.
03:04Right, right.
03:05But I think you include coaching in all of this.
03:07Yeah, you have to.
03:08100%.
03:08So I would say that.
03:09That's why I think it's close.
03:10Yeah, I would say you're right there.
03:12Maybe if they are ahead of you, it's by a nose here.
03:15And if you're ahead of them, it's by a nose here.
03:18Yeah.
03:19It's just, I feel like yesterday was the national,
03:22like, these, like, quote-unquote hot takes
03:24where Rich Eisen does this whole buildup.
03:27And he's like, the Patriots are good.
03:29It's like, yeah, we've known that for, like, two months now.
03:31It's about how good are they.
03:33And they are, it's not going to be like this every year,
03:37but you're eight and two.
03:38And I don't think they've played their best football yet.
03:41I'd agree with that.
03:41Totally agree.
03:42And the way you look at it like this, Greg,
03:44if you look at any championship caliber football team,
03:49I think it starts, and this is why I look at the Patriots
03:52to being good.
03:53The two most important pieces are your quarterback
03:56and your head coach.
03:57And if you asked me, would,
04:00who has the better quarterback head coach?
04:03Rams, Patriots, I'd give the edge to the Rams.
04:06Okay, you wouldn't give it when it comes to,
04:09would you, maybe you would,
04:10when it comes to Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
04:13I would give it to them.
04:14Okay.
04:14But I wouldn't give it to Seattle.
04:17Like, I wouldn't, I wouldn't give it to Detroit.
04:19Buffalo?
04:21I wouldn't give it to Buffalo.
04:22You have the, they have maybe the better quarterback,
04:24but I think you have the better coach.
04:26They have the better quarterback based on experience.
04:29Yeah, on experience.
04:30Yeah.
04:30I mean, we're purely based.
04:32Same with the Ravens,
04:33better quarterback, but not better coach.
04:35Yep.
04:35But we're basing it on that.
04:36So when I, when I look at, okay,
04:39what, what helps you win in the postseason, right?
04:42The most important thing of those two pieces to the game, right?
04:46Because I think that you have the other pieces,
04:48your running game, your receivers, your defense,
04:50like you're good enough in those areas,
04:52but those are the two most important pieces.
04:55And I think Curtis is right.
04:57Nationally, the,
04:58the tide is turning toward the New England Patriots.
05:01I think it was Damian Woody yesterday who said,
05:03the road to the Superbowl goes through Foxborough.
05:07And so there, there are,
05:11there are some nationally who believe that this is a team that should get
05:15there at least when it comes to San Francisco.
05:17So your quarterback coach is better than the Colts quarterback coach duo.
05:21So that, that's why when I start to, you know, look at it.
05:25What about your owner?
05:26Is your owner better than the Colts owner?
05:28No, I think she's pretty good.
05:29I got to tell you after the trade deadline, I'm on Courtney's side.
05:32I love the Colts.
05:33I want women running everything.
05:34Yeah.
05:34She, she rolled the dice on sauce Gardner.
05:37So she trying to win this year.
05:39Extra.
05:39All right.
05:40Well, uh, Eagles pull one out and,
05:44and get a win as they should have last night.
05:47And you can talk about that all day long here on Boston sports,
05:51original W E E I, by the way, to start off this morning,
05:55it is veterans day.
05:56So a huge thank you to every single one of you that is serving or has served
06:02this country.
06:03And you are, you are all braver than I,
06:07because I could not do that and do that job the way you have all done it.
06:12So thank you for that.
06:14We are looking forward to lunch with a hero today,
06:16which is happening up in Stoneham at a Viva Trattoria.
06:19I will, in case anybody's wondering, I got to go salad.
06:22I am, I am, uh, I'm full into, uh, diet mode, uh,
06:27in advance of the holidays.
06:29I, I tend to overeat during the holidays.
06:31Everyone does.
06:32I don't know about anybody else.
06:35So I'm going to, I'm going to ramp up, uh, you know,
06:38probably Thanksgiving will be a cheat day for me.
06:42Uh, and same with Christmas.
06:43But, but other than that, I am, uh, I'm really,
06:47I'm going to have to go salad.
06:48Is it the same meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas in your household?
06:51Cause I feel like it is in mine.
06:53You do Turkey for Christmas?
06:55No, we, we do like ham.
06:58Okay.
06:58Then it wouldn't be the same meal.
06:59It's like turkey.
07:01I don't know why.
07:01We do ham and turkey sometimes,
07:03but we do all the sides of the same,
07:05like macaroni and cheese.
07:06Oh,
07:06stuff.
07:07Yeah.
07:08Well, I mean, what do you do differently on?
07:10I'm asking the question.
07:11I mean, Turkey, Turkey,
07:13we, we generally go to depending where I'm going.
07:17Oh, so you go someplace.
07:18Yeah.
