00:00The Food and Drug Administration is prompting the recall of a popular baby formula after 13 cases of
00:05infant botulism were reported in 10 states. By Heart's Whole Nutrition infant formula is believed
00:12to be the culprit after more than a dozen babies were hospitalized in Arizona, California, Illinois,
00:17Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and Washington. Now, infant botulism
00:23is caused by a specific bacterium that produces toxin in the large intestine. If it goes untreated,
00:29it can be fatal. Now, luckily, no deaths have been reported yet from this breakout. By Heart claims
00:35their products are not linked to this breakout, but that they issued the recall out of an abundance
00:39of caution. Their statement reads in part, the FDA has never found a direct link between infant formula
00:45and infant botulism, and no related toxins have been found in any By Heart product.
00:50But obviously, with a risk like this, better safe than sorry.
