Even blockbusters have bloopers! Join us as we count down our picks for the most glaring movie mistakes that somehow made it to the final cut. Our countdown includes waterfalls that defy gravity, puppeteers caught on camera, extra actors making strange choices, and continuity errors that will make you question everything you thought you knew about your favorite films!
Transcript
00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at errors in movies that fans eventually noticed
00:10while the filmmakers apparently didn't.
00:12That's a damn shame.
00:16Number 30 Waterfall Falling Up Anaconda
00:21A film as ridiculous as Anaconda requires some suspension of disbelief, but there's
00:26a particular logic-defying shot that's sillier than any snake attack.
00:31Around the third act, the boat gets stuck near a waterfall.
00:35Our heroes eventually get back on course, but tell us if anything seems odd as the boat
00:40backs out.
00:45It isn't backing away, but rather moving toward the waterfall.
00:50The footage is being played in reverse.
00:52This is evident from the waterfall, which flows upward rather than downward.
00:57It's absolutely beautiful.
01:00Honestly, this would be a clever use of footage available if it weren't for the waterfall
01:05breaking Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation.
01:08Maybe the filmmakers figured that we'd be too entranced by the magnetic performances of J-Lo
01:14and Ice Cube to notice.
01:16Wrong.
01:17Number 29 Puppeteer Head The Dark Crystal
01:21This dark fantasy stands out as one of Jim Henson's most ambitious projects, creating
01:26an entire world populated by puppets and animatronics without a human in sight.
01:31Well, for the most part.
01:34As cleverly concealed as the puppeteers are for much of the film, one literally rears their
01:39head as our Gelfling hero, Jen, searches for the astronomer, Augra.
01:47While passing a rock on the mountain, someone's hairdo can be briefly seen under Jen.
01:53This was presumably Henson himself, who performed as Jen.
01:57Whoever it was, they popped up not once, but twice in the same shot.
02:05The top of the head almost blends in with the rocky terrain.
02:08Once you see it, though, the illusion is broken, if only for a moment.
02:13Number 28 Watch Your Step A Nightmare on Elm Street
02:18Coming out during a pre-CGI era, A Nightmare on Elm Street still has some of the most inventive
02:23practical effects in the slasher genre.
02:26Although many of the effects hold up, there are a few instances where we're reminded that
02:31this film only had a $1 million budget.
02:41As Nancy rushes up the stairs, the steps turn into a gooey substance.
02:46It's Bisquick, by the way.
02:47While Nancy is caught off guard as one leg gets stuck, she really should have noticed the
02:52hole in the step above her.
02:58As creepy as this effect is at first glance, it's kind of ruined when you spot the poorly
03:03hidden hole where Nancy needs to make her next mark.
03:06Running upstairs in scary movies never ends well.
03:10Number 27 Lights Off
03:13Grease
03:14Before beauty school dropout, Frenchie is paid a visit from her guardian angel.
03:18She has a heart-to-heart with Vi, the waitress.
03:21Vi, literally, has a full plate on her hands as she closes for the night.
03:26Having to flip the light switch with her elbow.
03:32The thing is that, she just misses the switch, unable to reach it.
03:36Regardless, the lights still go out.
03:39Vi?
03:40Uh, I dropped out.
03:43Maybe Vi forgot to pay the electric bill.
03:45Maybe Frenchie is already dreaming, or perhaps Vi as a guardian angel of her own.
03:49In any case, this is one mistake that surely left the filmmakers red in the face and pink
03:55in the hair.
03:56Number 26 Needs Some Ironing Out
03:59Forrest Gump, one of the most touching scenes in this Best Picture winner, sees Forrest reunite
04:04with Jenny, who reveals that they have a son.
04:07The scene is such an emotional powerhouse that it's easy to overlook this continuity error.
04:12When Forrest enters Jenny's home, an iron stands upright on the board.
04:21Once Haley Jo Osment arrives as Forrest Jr., the iron is suddenly sitting face down.
04:26Then, as Forrest sits to watch Sesame Street with his son, the iron is back up like it was
04:39before.
04:49We'd like to think that between telling Forrest that he's a father, Jenny simply felt the urge
04:54to get some ironing done at record speed.
04:56If that's the case, she would be even faster than Forrest.
05:01Number 25 Lost Your Wig King Kong
05:04The original King Kong is a cinematic landmark, although its depiction of the Skull Island
05:09locals feels dated in more ways than one.
05:12Even if you were to look past the racial stereotypes that were common at the time, it's hard to
05:17ignore this wardrobe malfunction.
05:20It's pandemonium when Kong approaches the giant gate.
05:34All hands are on deck as the characters try to prevent him from entering the village.
05:38An especially eager extra leaps from a hut toward a chicken cage below.
05:43As they fall backward, their wig gets stuck on the cage.
05:51We doubt the fall was intentional and the flipped wig was almost certainly a slip up.
05:56Ah well, we suppose the villagers have a hairier situation on their hands.
06:00Ha, ha, ha, ha.
06:02Number 24 Kevin's Dinner
06:05Home Alone
06:06Anyone who rewatches Home Alone every year knows that Kevin has a mac and cheese Christmas
06:10Eve feast that tragically goes uneaten.
06:14Even with the annual viewings, only a handful of fans have picked up on this slight change
06:18in the menu.
06:19When Harry enters the dining room and gets feathered, Kevin's wine glass of milk is still present,
06:25yet his mac and cheese has been replaced with a completely different meal.
06:29You're dead!
06:31Perhaps Kevin found time to eat his mac and cheese between setting off booby traps, but
06:38he was still hungry.
06:40In any case, the table is covered in feathers the next time we see it, so unless Kevin likes
06:45his poultry unplugged, he'll need to prepare something else.
06:52Number 23 Not a cloud in the sky?
06:55The Sound of Music
06:57The Sound of Music contains one of the most sweeping shots in cinema, as the camera zooms
07:02in on Julie Andrews atop a hill.
07:17We then get a close-up of Andrews as the opening number commences.
07:21As breathtaking as this intro is, it's not seamless.
07:25When the helicopter approaches Andrews, the sky is blue with barely a cloud in sight.
07:30As Andrews belts out the first lyrics, though, the sky is suddenly overrun with clouds.
07:35But with the sound of music…
07:40The weather made The Sound of Music an especially difficult shoot, with rain being a constant
07:45problem.
07:46It stopped raining just long enough for them to get the necessary shots, but they couldn't
07:51control the clouds.
07:52Hey, at least they didn't do it on a green screen like they would've today.
07:57Number 22
07:58Um, that's a glitch.
08:00The Matrix.
08:01We're shocked that Bill Pope didn't get an Oscar nomination for his cinematography
08:05in The Matrix, which has no shortage of shots that stick with us even years later.
08:11Even with Pope's expertise, there was an occasional glitch.
08:15The most famous example is when Morpheus shows Neo the door.
08:19I told you I can only show you the door.
08:24Neo decides to open it, with their reflection appearing in the doorknob.
08:28While it's a neat shot, you can see the camera lens reflected along with the actors.
08:33To the filmmakers' credit, they got creative in trying to camouflage the camera.
08:41Even making Morpheus' green tie and leather coat blend in with it.
08:45Despite their best efforts, the camera still sticks out like the same black cat walking
08:49by twice.
08:51Number 1 Road Warrior Braveheart
08:54If you're looking for a history lesson, Braveheart just barely meets the criteria.
09:00Mel Gibson's epic takes numerous creative liberties.
09:03For example, the film depicts the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
09:06But the bridge isn't present.
09:08That's not even the scene's most blatant historical inaccuracy.
09:20As the opposing army charges towards William Wallace's troops, a modern innovation can
09:24be spotted beyond the battlefield.
09:27It's a car, and it's about six or seven centuries too early.
09:34While this doesn't take away from how awesome the battle is, imagine how much cooler it would
09:39have been if Wallace got in the car and started plowing through his enemies.
09:43Mad Max style.
09:45They may take our lives, but they'll never take our Fords.
09:49Number 20 You just don't want to fight Batman.
09:52The Dark Knight Rises Christopher Nolan sure knows how to direct an action
09:56movie.
09:57But he somehow missed this glaring error.
10:00Batman and Catwoman team up to fight some of Bane's goons on a rooftop.
10:04During the skirmish, a henchman approaches Batman on the left side of the screen.
10:08He then stops in his tracks and falls down without being hit.
10:13We're not sure what happened here, but it's likely that someone missed their cue.
10:20Luckily, the goof is very easy to miss, as the camera is focused on Catwoman taking down
10:25a henchman with a cool wraparound kick.
10:29It's a pretty interesting distraction once you know it's there, though.
10:36Number 19 Starbucks Once upon a time in Hollywood.
10:40Director Quentin Tarantino did meticulous work and spent millions of dollars transforming
10:45modern Los Angeles into the stylish LA of 1969.
10:49But he missed one crucial detail, which is hidden in the fuzzy background of a shot.
11:03While out about town, Sharon Tate decides to watch her own movie at the Fox Bruin Theater.
11:08This scene was filmed on location and the theater is now across from a Starbucks.
11:13The sign for this Starbucks can be seen while Sharon talks to the box office attendant, despite
11:18the famous coffee chain not existing until 1971.
11:31Even worse, Starbucks didn't reach LA for another couple of decades.
11:36Number 18.
11:38From Very Un-Roman Technology Gladiator Ridley Scott's historical epic takes place
11:44in the year 180, with Emperor Marcus Aurelius hoping to restore the long-dormant Roman Republic.
11:51Much of the action takes place in the famous Colosseum, with Maximus being forced to fight
11:55as a gladiator.
11:57In one fight, Maximus and his fellow gladiators are tasked with defeating a series of horse-drawn
12:02carriages.
12:03One of these carriages flips over during the battle, spilling its riders into the dirt.
12:08The crash also reveals a very modern hydraulic gas contraption hidden within the chariot.
12:18Ancient Romans had their own hydraulic systems, but they certainly were not this sophisticated.
12:24Number 17.
12:25The what now?
12:27The Goonies.
12:28The end of this classic sees the titular Goonies speaking to the press about their adventures.
12:33During the talk, Data tells a disbelieving reporter about a scary octopus that the group encountered.
12:39What happened out there?
12:40Were your lives in danger?
12:41The octopus was very scary.
12:42The octopus?
12:43Yeah.
12:44It was very dangerous.
12:45The scariest thing is walking the planet.
12:47Viewers may also have been left in a state of disbelief, as this was never shown in the movie.
12:52The octopus sequence was filmed, and can be seen in some TV versions of the film, but it
12:58was cut from the theatrical release.
13:03Luckily, this editing mistake still works within the logic of the movie, as Data could
13:07simply be lying for the sake of publicity.
13:10You know, as just a kid getting wrapped up in the excitement of it all.
13:15Number 16.
13:16Those aren't ruby slippers.
13:19The Wizard of Oz.
13:20The problem with emphasizing an article of clothing is that the viewers will be on the
13:24lookout for it.
13:25Much is made about Dorothy's ruby slippers, and they have become an iconic piece of pop
13:30culture, which is why their sudden absence is all the more distracting.
13:34What have you done with them?
13:35Give them back to me or I'll…
13:37It's too late.
13:38There they are, and there they'll stay.
13:41Give me back my slippers.
13:46I'm the only one that knows how to use them.
13:49This scene has Dorothy and the Scarecrow coming across a group of sentient apple trees, which
13:54proceed to pelt the heroes with their fruit.
13:57One apple hits Scarecrow, causing Dorothy to start running away.
14:01Her feet are very briefly shown as she stumbles, and this is where she is seen wearing black
14:06patent leather shoes instead of the classic ruby slippers.
14:10When we see her again, the ruby slippers are back.
14:2015.
14:21Can't choose a breakfast.
14:23Pretty Woman.
14:24The titular Pretty Woman is Vivian Ward, a sex worker who strikes up a relationship with
14:30wealthy client Edward Lewis.
14:32One scene sees Vivian and Edward having breakfast and discussing what Edward does for a living.
14:37Throughout much of the sequence, Vivian is picking off pieces of a croissant and eating
14:41them.
14:42But right after Edward talks about his schooling, the camera switches back to Vivian, and she
15:00is now holding a pancake.
15:01But wait, that's not all.
15:03There are two mistakes for the price of one.
15:06After the sloppy pancake reveal, Vivian clearly takes a second bite out of it.
15:10Yet, when the camera switches back to her again, the second bite is magically gone.
15:15Your folks must be really proud, huh?
15:1814.
15:19Marty's Gibson.
15:20Back to the Future.
15:22While an undeniable classic of the time travel genre, Back to the Future is filled with anachronisms.
15:28One of them involves the climactic dance sequence, in which Marty entertains the school with some
15:33Chuck Berry.
15:34Way down in Louisiana, down in New Orleans, way back up in the woods among the evergreens.
15:40Marty is playing a Gibson ES-345, which wasn't publicly released until 1959.
15:46The past sequences of Back to the Future take place in 1955, a good four years before the
15:52ES-345 was introduced.
15:54In reality, Marty would likely be playing the Gibson Les Paul, a very popular electric guitar
16:00that was introduced in 1952.
16:02However, this was likely a creative decision as Chuck Berry also played the ES-345.
16:08It's not just web-slinging powers and a chiseled bod that Peter Parker acquired from the spider.
16:26He apparently got a magic lamp that fixes itself.
16:29An excited Peter tests out his new web-shooting powers in his room, and it's a green lamp.
16:37He pulls the lamp towards himself and is forced to duck out of the way as it sails past him
16:41and shatters against the wall.
16:44This attracts the attention of Aunt May, and Peter quickly shoos her away when he closes
16:49the door to examine his web-covered room.
16:51The green lamp has somehow been restored to its place on the shelf.
16:55Number 12.
16:57The infamous doll baby, American Sniper.
17:00We've seen some bad movie babies in our time, but arguably not as bad as American Sniper.
17:06In one seat, Chris and Taya Kyle have a heart-to-heart about Chris' lack of family commitment.
17:11Chris and Taya take turns holding the baby, but no matter whose hands it's in, the baby
17:15looks hilariously fake.
17:17It's clearly just a cheap plastic doll that the prop department probably found at the
17:36local Walmarts.
17:37Screenwriter Jason Hall explained that they planned on shooting with real babies, but one
17:42didn't show up to set, and the other was sick.
17:45Desperate, director Clint Eastwood ordered that the scene go ahead with a prop doll.
17:50It's true.
17:58Number 11.
17:59No Sweeping Here.
18:00Quantum of Solace.
18:02Working as a background extra usually means blending into the scenes and not drawing any
18:06attention to yourself, but even performing simple tasks can steal focus depending on
18:11how they're done.
18:12An extra on Quantum of Solace nearly stole Bond's thunder with one ridiculous act.
18:24When Daniel Craig's 007 is sitting on a motorcycle contemplating his next move, a worker is supposed
18:29to be sweeping the ground nearby.
18:31However, his broom isn't remotely close to touching the pavement.
18:35This hilariously bad sweeping job was unfortunately one of the best parts of the disappointing Quantum
18:41of Solace.
18:43Number 10.
18:44The Crushing Candyman Moment.
18:46Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
18:49Before we follow Charlie Bucket's trip into a wondrous chocolate factory, this classic movie
18:54introduces us to the Candyman.
18:56This sweet shop owner shows a lot of passion for his wide selection of goods.
19:15Unfortunately, the Candyman was too focused on his big number to worry about one unlucky shopper,
19:21right after he starts singing about tomorrow.
19:24Keep an eye out on the countertop he lifts up.
19:26Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream?
19:31Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream from the Candyman.
19:36The ledge bops one of the waiting children in the chin just before they all head past him.
19:41Props to the extra, who took the knock and just kept on going.
19:45Hopefully, she got a bonus chocolate bar for not drawing attention to the Candyman's mistake.
19:50Number 9.
19:51Pirates and… Cowboys?
19:53Pirates of the Caribbean.
19:55The Curse of the Black Pearl.
19:57Pirate movies ruled the box office and open seas when Captain Jack Sparrow first took to the screen
20:02in 2003.
20:03You are without doubt the worst pirate I've ever heard of.
20:07But you have heard of me.
20:09While the movie openly leaned into fantastical, magical elements, we weren't expecting to see
20:13them play with time, too.
20:16During the movie's triumphant final scene, Jack Sparrow gets emotional about the Black
20:20Pearl before ordering his crew around.
20:25On deck, you scablish dog!
20:26He apparently employed both pirates and at least one cowboy.
20:30If you look behind Sparrow's head to the left, he'll spot a man wearing a t-shirt and a straw hat.
20:36Although it's hard to catch upon a first viewing, you'll never unsee it once you know.
20:40Either a crew member stumbled on the set, or pirate Captain Jack Sparrow's hiring practices
20:45were really ahead of the times.
20:50Number 8.
20:51Quick change at the starting line.
20:53The Fast and the Furious.
20:55Long before the franchise was concerned with fighting atop cars or going to outer space,
21:00the Fast and Furious movies actually had a lot of racing.
21:03One of the most memorable competitive scenes saw the young Jesse race against the hardcore
21:08Tran.
21:09Ask any racer, any real racer.
21:11It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning.
21:16Before they started the race, we caught a big continuity mistake.
21:20As the competitors start revving up their engines, the camera cuts to Tran in a black button-up shirt.
21:26After a quick shot of the ref, he's suddenly wearing a black tank top with no explanation.
21:31We somehow doubt Tran had a quick change just to prepare for the race.
21:39Honestly, the fantastic narc scene that follows probably distracted people from noticing this
21:45wardrobe malfunction.
21:46I never knocked on nobody!
21:48I never knocked on nobody!
21:50Number 7.
21:52Early Bullet Holes.
21:53Pulp Fiction.
21:54During an iconic scene in an apartment, hitman Jules confronts Bret about backstabbing his boss.
22:00To say their conversation doesn't go well would be a bit of an understatement.
22:04And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger,
22:11those who attempt to poison and destroy my brother.
22:15In fact, audiences can see bullet holes from the shootout behind Jules and his ally Vincent
22:20during the scene.
22:21But there's one tiny problem.
22:24The holes can be seen before the gunman who makes them enters the movie's narrative.
22:36It's hard to tell whether the cameraman missed this detail, the scenic department got a little
22:41too eager, or the editor accidentally used this angle.
22:44But regardless of the explanation, we agree with Jules that something extraordinary was going on with
22:50those bullet holes.
22:51This was divine intervention.
22:53You know what divine intervention is?
22:55Number 6.
22:56A Boy Sees a Surprise Coming.
22:59North by Northwest.
23:00Released in 1959.
23:03Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest is a great spy thriller that still holds up today.
23:07One of its most suspenseful scenes takes place in a cafeteria.
23:11Just a second, you.
23:13Stay away from me.
23:14I'm a little.
23:15During the sequence, Eve pulls out a gun and surprisingly
23:19shoots Cary Grant's Roger Thornhill.
23:21But there's one character that definitely knew this violent moment was coming.
23:26There's a young boy in a blue shirt sitting in the background, to Eve's right.
23:30Before she pulls the trigger, he plugs his ears in anticipation of the gunshot.
23:35The only in-universe explanation for this moment is that the young boy is a clairvoyant.
23:50He should really talk to the phony psychic in Hitchcock's family plot.
23:54Number 5.
23:55Two Ant-Men Avengers Endgame.
23:58With a cast, budget, and scope as epic as this, mistakes are bound to happen.
24:03One of the most noticeable and hilarious involves Ant-Man.
24:07During the intricate climactic sequence, Ant-Man and the Wasp are attempting to hotwire a van
24:12while the battle rages on around them.
24:14It's dead.
24:14What?
24:15It's dead.
24:17I have to hotwire it.
24:18The gauntlet is given to Black Panther, who proceeds to run through the chaotic battlefield.
24:23During this run, eagle-eyed viewers can spot a massive Ant-Man in the background, sending a
24:28leviathan through a portal.
24:35Unless quantum magic can put Scott in two places at once.
24:39This isn't happening.
24:40Still, makes for a really cool visual, though.
24:42Number 4.
24:43A car rolls into Middle-Earth.
24:46The Lord of the Rings.
24:47The Fellowship of the Ring.
24:49While The Lord of the Rings trilogy is widely considered as a nearly flawless trio of fantasy
24:55films set in a world without modern technology, a few mistakes did slip through the cracks.
25:00I found it all, Samwise Gansey!
25:03Have you been eavesdropping?
25:04I ain't been dropping no eaves, sir, honest.
25:06One of the most infamous slip-ups that eagle-eyed fans have pointed out involves a car.
25:11A modern vehicle was originally seen in the distance as Sam and Frodo talk about being far from home.
25:17Come on, Sam.
25:22Since Peter Jackson caught the flub, he set about erasing it with VFX.
25:27But it's still possible to see the smoke the car produced in certain cuts of the movie.
25:32We bet Sam and Frodo would've loved to jump into a vehicle so they could return the ring a little
25:37faster, or drive home.
25:483.
25:49A Painful Kick.
25:50The Last Samurai.
25:52Imagine that you got dressed up in epic Samurai gear for a big and exciting battle shot.
25:57Shortly after the director calls action, the main hero rides in to dismount his battle-ready horse.
26:03Just as he dismounts, a horse hits you with a strong kick below the belt.
26:13The poor actor withstands the brutal hit like nothing happened.
26:16Not only does he stay upright, but he gets back in formation instantly.
26:24We know that Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe were supposed to be the big main heroes of this movie,
26:29but it's extras like the guy who endured this horse kick who are the true champions.
26:35Number 2.
26:36Wrong Eye Color.
26:38Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
26:41Throughout the Harry Potter films, multiple people tell the boy who lived that his eyes are
26:45identical to his mother Lily's.
26:47You know, the very first time I saw you, Harry, I recognized you immediately.
26:51Not by your scar, by your eyes.
26:56They're your mother Lily's.
26:57Although the books said that they both had green eyes, the young Daniel Radcliffe had
27:01trouble with the context that would have changed his natural blue irises.
27:05Fans let this change slide until the very last film.
27:09When we see a flashback to a young Lily, she inexplicably has brown eyes.
27:14In most stories, this wouldn't be an issue to the plot.
27:17But franchise mainstay Severus Snape explicitly compares Harry's eyes to his mother's in a pivotal scene.
27:24Look at me.
27:32You have your mother's eyes.
27:34Did the young Lily have the same eye contact problem as Radcliffe did?
27:38Or was this an honest slip-up?
27:41Either way, die-hard fans will never let this eye-color fiasco go.
27:45After all this time.

28:12Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope
28:15Although most Stormtroopers rock a similar white ensemble, a few of them have stood out as
28:20unique throughout the franchise.
28:22Look, sir, droids.
28:24One of the funniest members of this group of soldiers appeared in A New Hope.
28:28When a group of stormtroopers enters the chamber previously occupied by our Rebel heroes,
28:34one of them bumps their head against the top of the door.
28:38Take over.
28:38See to him.
28:41It instantly makes the intimidating soldiers more incompetent than their terrible aim would suggest.
28:47Instead of trying to cover up this gaffe, George Lucas later drew attention to it with sound effects.
28:52He also had Jango Fett make a similar head bonk in Attack of the Clones.
29:01We give a lot of credit to Lucas for having a sense of humor about a stormtrooper mistake.
