00:05Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're looking at questions that Mortal Kombat 3 needs to answer.
00:11There will be spoilers for the first two movies.
00:15Does Cole's wife and child know he's dead?
00:182021's Mortal Kombat ended with Cole Young heading to Hollywood to find Johnny Cage.
00:22Hollywood.
00:24Hollywood?
00:25What the hell's in Hollywood?
00:27Not what?
00:28Who?
00:29So naturally, the next movie opens up with Raiden and Sonya recruiting Johnny.
00:34Johnny Cage, you have been chosen for more to come back.
00:38Yeah, this was the first sign that Cole's role was not only being downgraded but he was gonna die.
00:43After being a less than beloved lead in the previous film, Cole's only significant line here is about how he's
00:48willing to sacrifice his life, even with a wife and a child at home.
00:51Subtle foreshadowing.
00:53That said, did anyone remember to tell Allison or Emily that Cole got his head bashed in?
01:00Wouldn't Scorpion have something more to say about his descendant dying?
01:03Cole might just get resurrected anyway, but his family's probably wondering why he isn't responding to their texts.
01:19Will Hanzo and Bi-Han's rivalry continue?
01:22The rivalry between Hanzo Hisashi, aka Scorpion, and Bi-Han, aka Sub-Zero, was a highlight in the 2021 film.
01:33Although Hanzo at last got his revenge, Bi-Han returns in the sequel as the undead Noob Saibot.
01:39Once again, Scorpion tells an old enemy to get over here.
01:42With the next film likely to revolve around the Netherrealm, it only seems natural that Hanzo and Bi-Han will
01:46have a third round.
01:56Will Bi-Han remain Noob Saibot though, or could he somehow come back as Sub-Zero?
02:00Maybe instead of Bi-Han, Mortal Kombat 3 will introduce Kuei Liang, his younger brother, who takes on the Sub
02:06-Zero mantle.
02:06Hanzo and Kuei Liang even become allies in the games, meaning Scorpion and Sub-Zero may fight side by side
02:12in MK3.
02:13Had I known of my clan's complicity in the Shirai Ryu's extinction, our history would be different.
02:20When are we going to see these fan favorites?
02:22Kuei Liang is just one character that we could see added to the roster.
02:25The Mortal Kombat 3 game introduced several fighters, most notably Nightwolf.
02:29It'd be great to finally see him in a live action movie that isn't Mortal Kombat Annihilation.
02:38Riot Control Officer Curtis Stryker was another popular breakthrough from the MK3 game, but we've barely seen him in live
02:45action outside of the Legacy web series.
02:47Now that Johnny Cage has debuted in this continuity, could a relationship bloom between him and Sonya, leading to their
02:52daughter Cassie Cage appearing in the next film via time travel?
02:55Did I ever teach you to mean mug? Want me to give you a sample? Hit me!
03:00From Kenshi to Mileena, there's no shortage of fighters that they could bring into the fold, but how many can
03:05they squeeze in?
03:06I doubt I'll ever fight another Empress. Then I'll make this fight one to remember!
03:12Will Shinnok be the big bad? With the Netherrealm being set up for the next film, it only makes sense
03:17for the primary villain to be Shinnok.
03:18You turned against your fellow Elder Gods! You betrayed your title! You deserve much worse! But it's too late Raiden!
03:28I win!
03:29The fallen Elder God first appeared in Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero, but Mortal Kombat 4 cemented him as one
03:35of the franchise's most formidable foes.
03:37Farewell, Thunder God! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
03:41Banished to the Netherrealm, Shinnok breaks free with an assist from Quan Chi, who has already appeared in the film
03:47continuity.
03:48Maybe the third movie will see Quan Chi strike a deal with Shinnok, helping him escape the Netherrealm in exact
03:52vengeance upon those who trapped him there.
03:54In addition to revenge, Shinnok seeks to rule the other realms. Some may join him, but we could also see
03:59rivals team up to protect all realms from a common enemy.
04:02Do not underestimate the power of the human spirit!
04:06Will Kano switch sides again?
04:08Kano acts in his own interest.
04:10Well, well, well. You backstabbing, two-faced, ugly mother f***er.
04:18Kabal!
04:18He betrays our heroes in the first film, which proves to be his undoing at Sonya's hands.
04:23Quan Chi resurrects Kano in the sequel, but he doesn't turn him into a Revenant.
04:28Although Quan Chi can't control Kano, the villains keep him around for...reasons.
04:33This proves to be a miscalculation, as Kano backstabs the bad guys, figuring that aiding Earthrealm will be better in
04:39the long run.
04:40Kano is still allied with our heroes in the end, although Sonya is ready to yank out his eyes again
04:44if necessary.
04:45Will Mortal Kombat 3 see Kano go through a genuine redemption arc, or will he switch sides yet again if
04:50a better offer presents itself?
04:52So what would I need to do?
04:54What's up with Sindel?
04:55While certainly a better portrayal than we got in Annihilation,
04:58Mother, you're alive.
05:03Too bad you will die.
05:06It feels like a lot of Queen Sindel's development took place off-screen in Mortal Kombat 2.
05:10After Shao Kahn takes over Adinya, it's revealed that he corrupted Sindel, making her his puppet.
05:15Sonya ultimately defeats Sindel in a fight to the death, but she's brought back later, presumably thanks to Quan Chi.
05:21Then, the movie kinda just forgets about her.
05:24Is Sindel a revenant?
05:25Now that Shao Kahn has been defeated, is Sindel still loyal to him?
05:28We get that Kitana has a lot on her plate, but you'd think saving her mother would be a top
05:32priority.
05:32Our fates would not be settled by the size of our armies.
05:36Maybe the third film will see Sindel's soul restored.
05:39Otherwise, too bad?
05:40Are Arcana still a thing?
05:42In the first movie, it's established that fighters gain powers by unlocking their Arcana.
05:46Now sit down!
05:48Shut up!
05:49And pass me a f***ing April!
05:54Mortal Kombat 2 writer Jeremy Slater acknowledged that these dragon marks weren't one of the previous film's brighter ideas, comparing
06:00Arcana to midichlorians.
06:01While the sequel doesn't completely ignore the dragon marks, the idea is largely abandoned.
06:05Johnny seemingly unlocks his powers during the climactic fight, although it's a little unclear if this is his Arcana.
06:11You don't have any powers?
06:13It's just incredibly handsome.
06:15No, no, no, no!
06:17For that matter, did characters like Kitana or Jade even get Arcana?
06:20Does Kano even need Arcana if Quan Chi could make him a new eye anyway?
06:24The filmmakers have suggested that Arcana won't be mentioned in further installments, but it seems like a significant plot point
06:30to just forget about.
06:31Thank you for helping my fighter find his Arcana.
06:35Will deceased villains come back?
06:37Mortal Kombat 2 makes it clear that death is more of a temporary inconvenience in this universe.
06:41Let's go, baby!
06:45As such, it wouldn't be surprising if Mortal Kombat 3 saw the return of fallen villains like Goro, Reptile, and
06:50even Shao Kahn, especially if our heroes find themselves in the Netherrealm.
06:54They could also potentially encounter Kung Lao and Bi-Han, who have basically died more than once now.
06:59You're so smart!
07:03Could some of these characters be fully revived with their personalities and free will attacked, like Kano, or would they
07:08become revenants under Quan Chi's control?
07:10There seems to be a fair number of loopholes when it comes to resurrecting characters in Mortal Kombat, so we
07:15guess pretty much anything is on the table.
07:17It's showtime!
07:21Will Cole and Jax be resurrected?
07:23Our heroes face multiple fatalities in the sequel, with Shao Kahn defeating Jax and turning Cole's head into a bloody
07:29pulp.
07:29The film ultimately ends with the characters heading to the Netherrealm to revive their friends.
07:34While we know Quan Chi can bring back the dead, his dark magic comes with some strings attached.
07:38This is a war for the fate of your world.
07:43Even if they find Cole and Jax, would Quan Chi just bring them back as revenants?
07:46If so, that might be a fate worse than death.
07:49Maybe they'll have to fight their way out of the Netherrealm to preserve their souls.
07:52Earth belongs to me.
07:55Also, when they track them down, will Jax still have his mechanical arms and will Cole have regrown his head?
08:01Or, will Cole just be running around headless?
08:16What exactly happened to Liu Kang?
08:19Gamers might have expected Liu Kang to defeat Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat 2.
08:26Liu Kang ultimately accepts that this isn't his fight to win, however.
08:29Instead, he disappears into fire, presumably going to another plane of existence where he may still be able to save
08:35Kung Lao.
08:36So, does this mean Liu Kang died too?
08:41You, Johnny Cage, are a part of this now.
08:45Even Jeremy Slater, who wrote the script, doesn't seem entirely sure.
08:49Mentioning in a Variety interview it's, quote, a mystery that's going to be explored in Mortal Kombat 3.
08:54That said, Slater also noted that, quote,
08:56they always knew that they would be bringing Liu Kang back in some regard in the third movie.
09:01By combat.
09:06I'm not some great warrior.
09:09I'm not some champion.
09:11Dead or alive?
09:12We already mentioned that death is anything but permanent in this series.
09:16It's time to become the hero.
09:20What questions do you have for Mortal Kombat 3?
