07:47you when map reading when you're a little girl correct this is your task navigator and then your
07:52money mr money and their budget in cash we're gonna have to decide who's in charge of the money we can
07:57split it in case one of us gets robbed time to learn where the race will tick let's do this
08:05final destination is bahamas bahamas bahamas peninsula de la guajira never heard of it have you
08:14no i haven't gcse geography here we go yeah here we go what is a peninsula babe it's like a point you
08:22know ah you found it there you go yes hi hi hi where is it colombia colombia there it is we are gonna
08:32come around it found it found it a journey from mexico across the entirety of central america to the finish
08:40line peninsula de la guajira the northernmost point of the south american continent to get there teams
08:49must pass through five checkpoints only when they reach one will they learn where the next will be
08:55and they must do it all on a budget of just 950 pounds per person pesos and dollars the equivalent
09:03cost of flying the route that is so much less than i thought sleeping on benches here we can oh god
09:10basically we've got around 30 quid each a day that's crazy your first checkpoint is flores peten
09:19where's that not a clue we're not very good at this are we no we'll spend all day at this but let's
09:25let's ask somebody yeah all right yeah because it is a race it's a budget we need to leave this place

11:10ability there's no doubt in our minds that we're going to go and finish it we'll finish it even if
11:15we don't come first which we will dylan and i have a lot more in us we do have a fighting spirit
11:24particularly i do i've seen strong sides of my mum so i know what she's capable of
11:33doing things that scare you are so important to you as a human being
11:38to be able to have this with my sister is incredible who can i trip up first i'm going
11:44to be striding up this beach i have no doubt it's going to be the most emotional exhilarating
11:49experience as much as it scares me it excites me

13:02is in guatemala over 1100 kilometers south in the republic of guatemala the first checkpoint
13:13rising from the waters of lake peten itza the colorful city of flores
13:19built upon the last stronghold in the maya kingdom
13:23and surrounded by central america's largest tropical forest
13:27that's the ferry there that's it come on watch it watch it watch it it's all right don't worry come
13:35on now we need to find out where we're going yeah looks like one's just come in come on
13:40what worries me is my own lack of patience i do have a mind that is very

15:28still on the island you know what it's been a bit of a wild jump in the deep end never for once in
15:33our lives have we ever been in a situation where we've never known where we're going to sleep what
15:37we're going to eat or how we're going to get there yeah so we need to get to the a of guatemala on this
15:45mountain right to reach flores teams could hug the caribbean coastline the most direct route but
15:51includes an extra country belize a former british colony with a national pride for conservation
15:59is seen in its lush jungle and ancient maya ruins or they could enter guatemala by heading west
16:06to make the most of mexico here they can save a life in the yucatan peninsula
16:13from rural ranches to well-preserved cities for more than 300 years of spanish conquest
16:19i feel like we need to experience what actual authentic mexico is this is like our chance to do
16:25what all our friends did in their gap years exactly and we never got to do it that's what we're going
16:30to dive into oh here we go classified ads to make it to the finish line teams must work to top up their
16:37budgets and have been provided with a travel guide and directory of local jobs i think we should get a
16:43job in campeche yeah harvesting habaneros you want to pick peppers over a beach club i never thought

17:58do belize is like exotic and there's so many mayan ruins there that'd be amazing when i was growing up

18:10is what we did yeah tended to be blackpool blackpool whitby me and my brother in the boot
18:18along with a massive picnic we can explore belize a bit yeah and get a good experience as well on the
18:23way i'm very curious and wherever i'll go that's what i'm looking forward to really seeing something
18:28new and never seen before in my life but we will have to cross a border yeah so there might be a bit of
18:33faff but it's the most direct route dad are you up for this let's go for it let's vamos me and dad
18:41want a proper adventure like you know indiana jones style or romancing the stone hola to the central
18:48bus station ten pesos we're taking a risk we're going the most direct route according to the map
18:55doesn't mean it's the easiest route oh my god what did we just take out

19:19tomatoes and potatoes not a single tourist sitting on here the world experience this

19:36i think belize rapido my only worry is the border crossings that's the only thing we'd be doing two
19:43borders because they can take a long time or do we just try and find our way through mexico then go
19:48straight into guatemala from there first day is like should we go this way should we go that way how
19:54long is it going to take for us to go that way should we rock paper scissors oh it's hard man it's so hard
20:01i just don't want to stay in cancun we can't afford it no it ain't cheap i think i think we need to get
20:07out of this bit and then figure it out yeah let's go to valadoid tonight and then the day after we just
20:15sprint it down okay let's go hedging their bets the siblings settle on a short 200 kilometer
20:26hop to valladolid to keep their options of onward travel open let's auto busty our way out of here

20:49as night falls on day one of the race here we go our first adventure roman and harley moon are first
20:55to leave cancun why have we got you talked on already we're just going to track these mosquitoes
21:01oh my god we know mosquitoes i'll come near here i look like iron man as two more teams look to make
21:07a getaway there's a bus to chetamal i mean we could just do an overnight bus we might as well cover the
21:13distance right we'll sleep on the bus my gosh well we're fixed we are fixed
21:18a new turn bow sees the chance to leap south straight to the city closest to the border of belize
21:28i'm not gonna sleep i'm buzzing i'll tell you a little story how's that yeah
21:33once upon a time
21:38i feel like our best option is to find somewhere to sleep and eat here and then in the morning jump
21:44on a bus to campeche isn't there a coach that goes there now no you want to do an overnight bus
21:51on day one not that i want to do an overnight bus but if we get to campeche at early hours of the
21:56morning have an amazing day and see a side of mexico that we never once imagined
22:03tyler's plan save an accommodation by traveling 490 kilometers through mexico
22:09overnight do we want to be near the toilet no think about it think about it okay no
22:18look i hope this pays off because this could get us ahead you know it's the final minutes of our
22:24anniversary don't say i don't spoil you honestly i feel like the luckiest girl in the world right now

24:59working under the tutelage of farmhand juan is there any special uh technique just pick them up and

25:11won't let you down boss the cream of the crop just buy it just buy it no big deal do it the habanero chili

25:40i'm so happy we didn't stay in cancun this is really peaceful
25:49do you know the thing is back at home it feels like we're always on yeah 100 miles an hour always
25:54having like a pressure on you and it's full on it's around the clock but then you come out here
25:58and it's like i've heard one phone go off in the time that we've been here yeah there's something
26:03really really nice about that like a space to just clear your head isn't it
26:07when i first jumped into this industry i was told to get social media like you know you need to
26:14you need to jump on this and i feel like now it's just become part of the job and part of life
26:19and so we've navigated a lot of our relationship with all eyes on us there's not many times where you
26:24know we've been without social media and sharing all that stuff i feel like this is the first time
26:29i've done a job that's been considered normal what pig and peppers yeah i started working when i was 11.
26:36i was gigging every weekend i was sitting my year six sats and i was on the final of britain's
26:43got talent the night before yeah i was like when i was 11 i was the shyest kid ever were you i was
26:50the shyest kid ever i used to get my homework done at school so i could run home and watch indiana jones
26:55movies i was shy yeah of course i was shy as hell such a contrast to today i guess yeah
27:02what would be so nice about the race is just have like a moment where you know you get rid of like
27:06the outside noise switch off literally disconnect yeah from our phones and just see where it takes us

28:14fast train we're definitely gaining momentum but obviously it is more money but we're giving ourselves
28:19a fighting chance now aren't we exactly but as tourists pay twice the price of locals it comes at
28:25a cost of four percent of their total budget south of merida there's lots of connections here yeah for
28:32a potential route to get to guatemala and we can explore mexico more going this route their high
28:38speed train will whisk them 300 kilometers to the colonial town of merida the cultural capital of
28:45the yucatan let's do some culture treat ourselves eating yeah hopefully some lovely food for you
28:53we need an upgrade from a hot dog yeah yeah yeah i'm really excited there's good music there so that's
29:00what i'm hoping for actually if i was your age i would have been partying in cancun and places like

33:31for a second night the alternative make their way through mexico via merida to the border town of
33:38tennessee cave i'm open to it i'm not saying no but to me it feels like the wrong direction

33:53i think personally we should stay here and enjoy it and make the most out of it but i know that you
34:01want to keep moving so i'm happy for whatever makes you feel happy should i go and find the price
34:08i can just look okay i just really enjoy being in the moment for me the fun of it will be
34:15making a decision wondering if it's the right decision to make

38:22these ancient temples once reserved for priests and rulers
38:26the jaguar temple is one of the few maya sites the public can climb

38:47when i was growing up my passion was to travel and visit different parts of the world
38:53i wanted to actually to join the royal air force looks a bit steep let's get as far as you can
38:58let's see i can get we'll do it together come on but in them days asian family especially with my family
39:03you have to respect your parents or whatever they said you actually did so i left school at 15 to help
39:08them out good don't look down wow so when i had my own family i focused on giving them more than i had
