Could the Red Sox add a front add starter like Skubal? Bigger payroll in '26 than '25? Is a Schwarber return possible? How about Alonso?

00:00is calvin from methuen what's up calvin
00:03hey why not what's up guys why not try to go for ramirez i know five family members of him
00:11and lawrence methuen he loved boston his favorite player was manny he signed with cleveland for 100
00:17years but at this time they never get players for him he's not happy yeah i mean i i don't know i
00:23you have a bunch of you have a bunch of needs on the baseball team so um you got to do something
00:28when it comes to pitching you got to do something when it comes to first base um i don't know are
00:34you gonna do you have to do something when it comes to second base curtis like is christian
00:38campbell done or is he they're gonna give him another shot at it what's the deal uh i couldn't
00:44tell you two things about the future of christian campbell i just have a general question will
00:48the payroll be bigger or smaller than last year i think he'll be bigger i think he'll make some
00:55moves in the offseason i i think the the question about like second base third base the good thing
01:00is you have a player like uh meyer who could play either position because then he played then he
01:06played a little bit of second base and then obviously we've seen him play third base so
01:10if your expectations are for him especially with uh trevor story opting in it kind of says like all
01:18right he's going to be shortstop so we'll figure out whether or not we want to play meyer at third or we
01:23if we you know you know the caller brought up ramirez or a player like that bring him to play
01:28third and put meyer at second base i feel like you have some flexibility with with him as a player
01:34where you can bounce him around well curtis believes it is likely that they will trade jaron duran
01:38that that was a sign and trade that one year deal there so that is correct that is what i believe
01:43yeah because you're not going to stay with a four-man outfield and it kind of be like especially when all
01:48four guys are everyday players and the 40-man according to cots baseball contracts which is a
01:55website i visited way too much back in the day uh 2026 projected payroll right now is 166 million
02:04their opening day payroll last year was 193 million so that's obviously the departure of
02:11bregman and of uh devers yeah if you think they're going to spend 40 million fresh money god love you
02:18but if that means also if they trade duran that's 8 million off the books as well because i don't know
02:24if you're gonna necessarily get a 40 million dollar player right well are you okay with going into the
02:31season like let's uh like with marcello meyer you know even though he's had some injury issues
02:39as your everyday third baseman so yeah you are i got no issues with that i'd have i i feel more
02:46confident in him than i do bregman i have a question who's more critical wiggy of the red
02:51socks or jet of the bruins i'm very critical of the socks when they do when they do things that
02:57they should that they shouldn't be doing when they don't sign on pay 40 million for bregman because
03:01he's not worth 41 million well nobody's really worth there are guys that are worth 40 million he's not
03:08i'm not gonna pay a guy 41 million lou would disagree with you yeah i understand lou but lou works
03:14for the team oh i don't wow and i'm and i come from a different view and listen we love lou but
03:21a guy who met a guy who said veritek works for the team and when we we were going over and you said
03:2740 million for a locker room guy he he was kind of like yeah it was like wait a second what are we
03:33coaches then i should be getting 40 million right and i think he feels that you know i'm not gonna
03:38say i'm not gonna put words in his mouth but 41 million for a guy who missed what 70 games this year
03:46and then prior to that he dealt with injury i think he missed like maybe that the year before that
03:52when he was in houston he missed like 50 games he's 32 years old um his production is not the same
03:58so you're telling me because he might give good advice to some of those players in the clubhouse
04:06that you should as an organization and remember he opted out of the 41 million so or the the 80
04:14million that they owed him he said listen i don't want that i want more right that's offensive to you
04:21well i'm like wait a second clay so he wants 160 million yeah he might want another two years at at
04:2740 a year so would you give schwarber 40 million uh no and i don't think schwarber will cost you 40
04:34million what would you give schwarber i'd probably give schwarber somewhere in the 30 range how many
04:40years i mean i'd say how old is schwarber he's what it's around the same age is he the same age you
04:46know maybe a three-year deal i'd give him somewhere you know 30 something a year 32 yeah i mean is he
04:53going to be able to afford waltham at the no at that salary yeah you might have to he might want
04:58to be my neighbor in waltham oh but curtis don't you why would you say that oh wow yeah i didn't know
05:04you were in waltham what's up wigs no i was gonna say but don't you think on the western line or where
05:09are you near that dairy joy great spot that's a great spot i gotta try it but but don't you think
05:14like 30 million around that world for schwarber is like a good price yeah i mean yes i i think so i
05:20don't know i haven't i haven't seen the projections but that would seem to make sense and i would do
05:24that absolutely and that's why i i feel like i would do that you would probably get more production
05:29out of schwarber right yeah he's he's not as injury prone you get more production and you probably still
05:36get the the locker room guy that you need even if it was a pete alonzo which probably is in the same
05:42world salary wise who's probably going to cost you somewhere in the 30 30 million dollar range i would i
05:48would do pete alonzo and if you had if you if you had meyer at third base and you brought in a guy
05:56like schwartz or pete alonzo at first base base and then figured out maybe brought in another player
06:01at second base that might be a little bit you know less money i think i just think that the red sox look
06:08at it is he worth an extra 80 million for him to be happy mr baseball len laird checking in via the
06:18text machine whoa whoa whoa whoa i thought brett was mr baseball no no he's baseball brett okay
06:23schwarbs projection five for 145 so right at that 30 mark basically wiki you nailed it yeah
06:30so i would do i would do that yeah five years gets you to 37 years old right and he's a first
06:37baseman so it's like all right just hit me home runs and that's what he does um i would do pete alonzo
06:43also curtis uh some some rumblings that the dodgers are in the mix when it comes to alex
06:52pregman yeah oh ken just sent an update that's what he wants to offer you great oh you led the
06:58dodgers to world series i mean don't tell him this but i love this job so much i do it for free
07:04oh well you do it for the opposite of free god bless you i really i really don't i love this we got the
07:11hot stove turned on i don't know enough about you know i don't want to dive into a world that
07:16i don't know enough about like some of these other guys that you do that every day i don't know why
07:20today would be any no no i'm talking about guys you could get like i don't know the guys that you
07:25could get out there well you know like the you know he brought up the guy ramirez like i don't know
07:31enough about him which is had a seven-year contract like three years ago i think yeah so i don't know
07:36enough about those guys i would do peter lonzo but i do know enough that i wouldn't you know i
07:42wouldn't give uh bregman another two years at 80 million which gave him give him four years and
07:48call it 160 i would not do that that's a smart move by the red socks not to do that i would agree
07:54wigs if you said if you kept to pick one swarber or bregman i would pick swarber yep and i would and
08:00if they don't pick a guy like swarber if they don't go after him i would be criticizing him i'd be
08:05very disappointed because that's what you know you you would need yep texter believes that bregman
08:11is going to come crawling back that he's not going to get the deal that he wants out there
08:15i kind of i agree who's like i said who's going to give him if the dodgers will there's
08:20you think the dodgers are going to give him
