00:00Located on the outskirts of modern-day Mexico City, Tuyotihuacan is one of the most famous
00:05Aztec archaeological sites. Running down the middle of the site, which was once a flourishing
00:10pre-Columbian city, is the avenue of the dead. The Aztecs, who lived in the Mexican valley
00:16between the 12th and 16th centuries, also built pyramids in order to house and honor their deities.
00:22But the Aztecs didn't actually build it. Despite many theories, nobody is really sure who did.
00:27However, the Aztecs did name it and make it their own when they stumbled across the abandoned city.
00:34In its prime, it was the largest city in the Western Hemisphere and home to a plethora of
00:38residential compounds and pyramids, some of which were as big as the pyramids of Giza.
00:43Today, its two iconic pyramids, the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon, are the major
00:48highlights. Stroll along the Avenue of the Dead and visit the Citadel and the Temple of the Feathered Serpent.
