Russia and Kazakhstan have agreed to deepen their cooperation in the oil and energy sectors following two days of talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Moscow. The meeting, held at the Kremlin on Wednesday, focused on strengthening regional energy ties and addressing the fallout from U.S. sanctions on Russian oil companies.

Tokayev said both sides reached an understanding to expand joint efforts in oil, coal, and electricity production, as well as transportation and supply networks. “We agreed to strengthen our partnership in the areas of oil, oil products, coal, and electricity production, transportation, and supply,” he said during televised remarks after the meeting.
