In Argentina, social, union, and political organizations are commemorating the 20th anniversary of the rejection of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). The groups recalled the historic date when the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean halted the FTAA project, which sought regional domination and control. During the commemoration, under the slogan "For the sovereignty of the peoples, against the right and neoliberalism," attendees emphasized that the U.S. plan was not about free trade, but free exploitation. For his part, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel celebrated the occasion and urged the region to continue the struggle against the American empire.
