00:00Good evening, New Jersey.

00:05My name is Jason.

00:11I'm Mikey Sherrill's husband.

00:13You may know me from my popular lawn sign video,

00:17or perhaps you spied me in the background at one of her many speeches.

00:22And I will be honest that I had this whole speech prepared,

00:27but a friend told me to keep it short,

00:29and frankly, she won so quickly,

00:31I didn't really have time to memorize most of it.

00:38I will also tell you that it was going to be a list of her many, many good qualities,

00:43but clearly the people of New Jersey are aware of that already.

00:51But allow me just to expand on one significant quality I think Mikey has,

00:57that most of you recognize, but is worth going over.

01:01So we've been married just over 20 years, and every day I feel lucky.

01:06And not just lucky, but every day I recognize that she brings out the best in me.

01:12And when I think about leadership, isn't that what it's really all about?

01:18That leaders are those we look up to, that inspire us, that give us the confidence to rise a little higher,

01:29and be the best versions of ourselves.

01:31When we went to the Naval Academy and in the Navy, we learned a lot about leadership.

01:36And it was never about being a CEO, governor, or business.

01:41It was always about people.

01:43And that the foundation of leadership was caring about people.

01:47Somewhere along the way, I feel that caring was not considered a strength.

01:52But Mikey never forgot that caring is a strength.

01:57And she cares deeply.

02:02She listens to people.

02:04She includes them.

02:05And she leads with both her head and her heart.

02:08And no one gets left behind.

02:11So I think this outstanding victory tonight is a great affirmation of a positive direction we're headed in in this country.

02:22And I don't think that we can rest easy, but I will say I will rest easier tonight knowing Mikey is at the helm.

04:41And I am incredibly honored

04:43To be your next governor

04:44When I was 18

04:56I raised my hand

04:58And I swore to defend the Constitution

05:00And that moment defines me

05:03It taught me that leadership

05:04Means carrying the weight

05:06Of other people's hopes

05:07Standing firm

05:09When it's easier

05:10To bend

05:11And always

05:12Putting the common good

05:14Above personal gain

05:16And I know

05:20How hard it can be

05:21To serve in these times

05:59Civics education going

06:01We'll get that known by all

06:02But it was a demand for freedom

06:06From oppression

06:07And a commitment

06:07To creating better opportunity

06:10And a better future

06:11That idea has defined us

06:13For almost 250 years

06:15We fought for liberty

06:17At the crossroads

06:18Of the American Revolution

06:19Turning the tide

06:20For our young nation

06:22At the battles

06:23Of Trenton and Princeton

06:24We offered prosperity

06:30As we built the nation

06:31During the Industrial Revolution

06:32We've been the cradle

06:34Of scientific discovery

06:36Inventing everything

06:37From the light bulb

06:38To the laser

06:38Liberty

06:39And prosperity

06:41I've seen the genius

06:43In that motto

06:44Over the last year

06:45Because both

06:46Are essential

06:47In our democracy

06:49And as the president

06:56We here in New Jersey
