Local rapper Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, has been remanded for six days in connection with the death of Taiwanese social media influencer Iris Hsieh.

00:09investigation into the death of Taiwanese social media influencer Iris Xie. Dangwangi OCPD
00:16Assistant Commissioner Sazali Adam said the remand application was made at the Dangwangi
00:21District Police Headquarters. Sazali and Wee's lawyer also confirmed that Wee is now in police
00:27custody. Wee, who is better known as Name Wee, reported himself at the police headquarters at
00:461.10am on Wednesday. The 42-year-old said he would cooperate with the police in their investigation
00:52to give an explanation to the public and the deceased's family. He said he will not run away
00:58and he added that in the past, when he was wanted by the police, he had voluntarily reported himself
01:04each time. The police had earlier said they were looking for Wee for their investigation into Xie's
01:10case. The 31-year-old Xie was found dead at a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur on October 22. Wee was
01:18reportedly the last person with Xie prior to her death. Police had said they found drugs in the
01:24hotel room and reclassified Xie's case as murder after the initial sudden death classification.
