Harlem mother shares concerns as government shutdown threatens food aid

Monique Lewis, a Harlem resident and mother of three, relies on $742 in monthly SNAP benefits to cover nearly 75 percent of her food budget — a lifeline now under threat as the White House plans to send only partial payments to 42 million Americans as the government shutdown crippling public services nears record length. "I don't think we'll go hungry" she says, "but it’s really disturbing that this has happened and particularly around the holiday season."
