Texans line up for food donations as government shutdown threatens federal aid

Hundreds of residents in Houston, Texas, line up in their vehicles outside the city's NRG Stadium to receive food donations as funding for a federal food assistance program risks drying up amid a government shutdown. "It's just something basic as getting food to my kids and ensure the growth that they need to be a better person, to grow and be healthy kids in the future," says Sandra Guzman, a mother of two.

00:00Oh, no, man. You good? Either way or something...
00:05They're all... they're all kind of... they're all...
00:13Huh? For sure.
00:20Yeah.
00:21Can I just pray that the reason you want to play
00:23that you have heard from everything that you trust to?
00:30Yeah.
00:33I hate to see you, too.
00:52The reason I was just gravitating towards people
00:55like, uh, I have a lot of friends out here.
01:02You're welcome.
01:03Thank you, man.
01:04Very good.
01:05Yeah.
01:06Whatever you do.
01:07Some of this stuff is canned.
01:10You know how to cook?
01:11Yeah.
01:12Yeah.
01:13Yeah.
01:14Have fun.
01:41All these enchiladas are just OFF.
01:42They are in the room!
01:43I'm here to see them.
01:44Even if you like the chatbot.
01:45I can't see them out here.
01:46You can't sit here.
01:47You can't see them at the place.
01:48You can't see them in the same place.
01:49I had a lot of time and I didn't know, but I was so excited!
01:50I'm gonna have to see some of you guys here.
01:51I don't know if that's where I was going to show you.
01:53But it just happened!
01:54You didn't know why?
01:55I didn't know what I thought.
01:56But there was no, I think we had permanently.
01:57But I didn't know what to do!
01:58I was able to go to see any of these places already.
01:59And it's really nice because I wanted to hang out a lot.
02:00But it was a good thing.
02:01The restaurant is the owner.
02:09You can get a mortgage.
02:15I love the grocery store.
02:22The owner, the owner, is a little more accessible.
02:28Are you sure?
02:42In the meantime, what you see here is a super site distribution that we're doing at our local football stadium, NRG Park, home of the Houston Texans.
02:52And we will serve about 5,000 families at one time to try and take pressure off of the area pantries.
02:59We need our food stamps. We need our Social Security. We need our Medicare. We need everything that's due to us right now.
03:10So that's, that's, and it's just going down. If you cut all that out, it's going to be a nothing but a big war right now because people are going to start robbing.
03:20It's not anything extraordinary or anything like luxurious. It's just something basic as getting food to my kids and ensure the growth that they need to, to, to be a better person, to grow and be a healthy kids in the future.
03:38So if I don't get food stamps, I can't eat. Literally, I get $24 extra a month and that's it.
03:46The rest of it goes to the child support and not rent, which I'm blessed enough to find a place to charge me just $500 a month and rent.
03:54So, you know, I mean, it's a very important part.
03:57I would say.
03:58I would say.
04:27I would say.
04:30I would say.
04:31I would say.
04:39But I would say.
