00:00On today's Solo Sunday News, CM Punk wins big at WWE Saturday night's main event.
00:06Jade Cargill is your new WWE Women's Champion, the road begins for John Cena's final ever opponent,
00:13and Jey Uso continues to tease a heel turn.
00:16Hello and welcome to WhatCulture Wrestling and Solo Sunday News.
00:19Myself, Andrew Pallard. I hope you're good. I hope you're well.
00:21I hope your weekend is going as well as possible.
00:24A lovely Wrexham win on Friday night, followed by a cracking, succulent Chinese meal last night,
00:29means my weekend's taken along very nicely.
00:32And someone else whose weekend has been taken along nicely is CM Punk.
00:36Yes, your new World Heavyweight Champion.
00:40Saturday night's main event last night had fans kind of wondering whether WWE would actually crown a new champion.
00:45Or maybe, maybe there'd be some sort of shenanigans which would lead to some sort of non-finish
00:50that would keep the World Heavyweight title vacant.
00:52But no, instead there were no shenanigans.
00:54It was just a 20-minute back and forth where CM Punk eventually put Jey Uso away
00:59after two GTSs.
01:02Now, WWE is touting Punk as a seven-time World Champion.
01:06That's kind of a little hazy, I guess,
01:09as it's a second time as this World Heavyweight Champion,
01:12three times with the old big gold World Heavyweight title,
01:15two times as a WWE Champion,
01:17throwing ECW as well, ECW World Champion.
01:20Then there's obviously a two-time AEW Champion,
01:22or a Rage Champion, hey, OVW Champion.
01:23Or we go back even to the Mid-South, IWA Mid-South days.
01:26But either way, CM Punk is now your World Heavyweight Champion.
01:30And that reign is already longer than his last one,
01:32which was, of course, brought to an end abruptly by Seth Rollins
01:35after just a couple of minutes.
01:37Now, the big question is, what is next for CM Punk?
01:39How long does he keep this for?
01:41And is it?
01:42Is it Bron Breaker to be the one to take that title from him?
01:45Let us know in the comments what you think about that.
01:47I mean, as someone who is pulling for CM Punk versus Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 42,
01:52I'm thinking Punk doesn't have that title for too long,
01:54maybe through until the end of the year,
01:56possibly drops at the Royal Rumble,
01:57and I'm sure, you know, Elimination Chamber is in Chicago next year.
02:01And that's how you get to Punk versus Cody at Mania.
02:03But that is me spitballing.
02:04And then also, I mean, as well, there's this Cody and Randy Orton
02:07that's kind of been dangling for a while.
02:08Drew McIntyre should be getting yet another rematch against Cody.
02:12Last night, Cody retained the world title there,
02:15the WWE title against Drew in, I guess, shady circumstances,
02:18hitting McIntyre with DDT onto the WWE title,
02:21then pinning him after a crossroads.
02:23And speaking of Cody, WWE has released footage,
02:26because of course they have,
02:27of Cody Rhodes putting the belt around CM Punk's waist backstage,
02:31complete with a photo as well of Cody Punk,
02:34Ricky Saints, and Jade Cargill with their titles,
02:37obviously leading to the ever-fun Tony Fumbled sort of comments
02:40and the responses, because, hey, of course,
02:41people are going to comment with that.
02:43Whereas CM Punk and Jeyuso went 20 minutes,
02:46and Cody and Drew got, I believe, around 19 minutes.
02:48It was far more straightforward for Jade Cargill,
02:51defeating Tiffany Stratton in nearly, well, barely five minutes.
02:55Following on from SmackDown,
02:56Jade targeted Tiffany's leg, wearing Tiffy out,
02:58then hitting a couple of power bombs,
03:00and he jaded for the one, two, three,
03:02in a, I mean, extremely dominant display
03:06for this new, he-all Jade Cargill.
03:08For Tiffany, though, that brings her reign to an end
03:10after 302 days.
03:12I mean, she cashed in on Nia Jax, what, back in January.
03:14And for me, it was the right time to pull a title changer.
03:17I'm still not sure whether Jade is, you know,
03:19ready for that spot,
03:20but it's now down to her to take that ball
03:22and run the opportunity.
03:23Also, it nicely sets the stage
03:24with Bianca Belair and Jade at some point down the line.
03:27Whenever Bianca is ready to return,
03:29I mean, she's been out injured since WrestleMania 1,
03:31WrestleMania 1, that's a long time,
03:32since WrestleMania 41, where she broke a finger.
03:36This marks the first piece of singles gold
03:38in WWE for Jade Cargill,
03:39and it brings a little bit of freshness, I guess,
03:43to the SmackDown Women's division,
03:44a division that certainly needs a little bit of work right now,
03:47a division that would benefit from an NXT color,
03:49but, too, I mean, maybe Jordan Grace,
03:51maybe he pulled the trigger on Fatal Influence.
03:53I mean, Laini Reed is still, obviously, very raw,
03:55but very promising.
03:58But, yes, Jade Cargill is the new WWE Women's Champion,
04:01and that was one of two title changes that took place
04:03at Saturday Night's main event.
04:04I already mentioned there about CM Punk.
04:06I mentioned the WWE title match with Drew and Cody.
04:09The other match of the night,
04:10it was Dominic Mysterio retaining the Intercontinental title
04:12against Penta and Rusev.
04:15And while some have speculated that Dirty Dom
04:16could wind up facing John Cena as Survivor Series later this month,
04:20we now know how John Cena's final opponent will be decided.
04:25As announced last night in a video package
04:27that was narrated by Cena himself,
04:29the November 10th edition of Raw
04:31will see the start of a 16-man,
04:33the last time is now a tournament.
04:36The winner of that,
04:37earning the spot to be Cena's final ever opponent,
04:40a Saturday Night's main event on December 13th.
04:44Why is December 13th jumping out to me?
04:47That's a date that rings a...
04:48Wrexham versus Watford.
04:50That's why.
04:50Always with the football.
04:52Anyways, this tournament will feature Raw,
04:54SmackDown,
04:54and NXT talent.
04:56And Cena even mentioned
04:56we might see wrestlers
04:58who don't even work for the company.
05:00Considering how he mentioned,
05:03talked about talents he's been linked with,
05:05had history with previously in his career.
05:07For me, I'm thinking maybe,
05:08maybe we'll get Matt Cardona here,
05:10the former Zack Ryder.
05:13I know, I mean,
05:14some people have suggested Adam Copeland,
05:17Edge.
05:17I mean, I even saw some people mentioning
05:19Hiroshi Tanahashi.
05:20I mean, I'd love to see it,
05:22but you're not getting either one of those.
05:24Edge is contracted to AEW,
05:25and Tanahashi...
05:26Just no.
05:29He's not entering a tournament like this
05:30and not winning.
05:31And that's kind of...
05:31That's the point, though.
05:32What's the payoff?
05:33Like, Tanahashi loses in,
05:35like, the seven finals or something.
05:36I think we all know Gunther
05:37is the odds-on favourite here
05:38to be John Cena's final opponent.
05:40I mean, I wouldn't be surprised
05:41to maybe see Joe Hendry
05:42in this tournament, too, I guess.
05:44Maybe this is where you debut
05:45Oba Femi on the main roster.
05:47But again, for me,
05:48if I'm debuting Oba,
05:50I want him...
05:50I don't know what you want,
05:51I'm dominating people.
05:52I want him winning.
05:53Something like this, again,
05:54I can't see past anyone
05:55that's done Gunther.
05:56Though you can still make it work,
05:57still make Oba look like a beast in defeat.
05:58But then,
05:59do I trust WWE creative right now?
06:01Hmm.
06:03Maybe.
06:03I guess the best we'll say on that.
06:05And finally,
06:05wrapping things up today
06:06by spinning back to our first story.
06:08And that loss to CM Punk last night
06:10has seen Jey Uso
06:11seemingly continue down a dark path,
06:14continue to tease a full-blown heel turn,
06:15or continue to show a harder edge, I guess.
06:18By that, I mean he posted on Instagram
06:19after the match
06:20a screenshot of Punk
06:21holding the title up
06:22on the turnbuckle there,
06:24Jey's at ringside on the floor,
06:25looking up at him,
06:26and he captioned that with,
06:27you all win,
06:28complete with a middle finger emoji,
06:30which I'm not sure
06:30if I can actually do that,
06:31but there we go,
06:32there we go.
06:33Have at it.
06:35But yeah,
06:36Jey Uso is clearly
06:37not a happy puppy.
06:39Also, I mean,
06:40he was visibly upset
06:41after the match too,
06:42taking off his knee pads
06:43all very aggressively.
06:44As for the match itself,
06:47yeah,
06:49so-so,
06:50shall we say,
06:50I guess is the best thing
06:51I can say about that.
06:51Now, I love me some CM Punk,
06:53I enjoy me some Jey Uso,
06:54but that match,
06:55I mean,
06:56being honest,
06:56it was probably the worst
06:57on the show.
06:58I mean,
06:58the Tiffy and Jade match
07:00was only five minutes,
07:01but that did what it needed to do.
07:02That was a dominant display
07:03for Jade,
07:04but yeah,
07:04Punk and Jey Uso,
07:06not great,
07:08especially when it's,
07:08you know,
07:09your main event
07:09of Saturday Night's main event.
07:11The chemistry just seemed
07:12a little off at times,
07:13there was one real bad spot
07:14where Punk was going for it
07:15and neckbreaker on Jey
07:16and Jey,
07:18I don't know how to explain it,
07:19he just kind of,
07:19he went too far around
07:21and then just slumped to the mat
07:22and Punk kind of gave him
07:23a little,
07:23little bit of a snug kick
07:24and he did the spot again.
07:27But yes,
07:28Jey Uso once again
07:29teases a more
07:29bloodline-esque version of Jey Uso,
07:32which, I mean,
07:32to be fair,
07:33I can kind of get behind that.
07:34I'm not sure we'll get
07:35a full-on heel turn mind
07:36as, you know,
07:37Jey still continues
07:38to be incredibly popular,
07:39but still sells
07:40a whole bunch of merchandise.
07:42And with that,
07:43that brings today's news,
07:44a slightly slow news day
07:45to a close.
07:46Be sure to check out
07:47the other excellent video
07:47that is floating around
07:48here somewhere.
07:49And hey,
07:50cheap plug here,
07:50Mick Foley style,
07:51keep your eyes on the main
07:52WhatCulture YouTube channel
07:53for an interview
07:54I recently did with Kevin Smith,
07:56it's going to be up there soon,
07:57that was a whole lot of fun,
07:58man,
07:58I'm a big Kev Smith nerd.
07:59But yes,
08:00this has been
08:01WhatCulture Wrestling,
08:01the solo Sunday news.
