Manhunt underway after woman found dead in Hunter Valley home

A manhunt is underway for the partner of a woman found dead in a home in the Hunter Valley. A strike force has been set up to investigate what happened, with police treating it as a domestic-violence related homicide.

00:00It was just after 7.30 last night when police arrived at this home in Kersley, near Cessnock,

00:09confronted with a scene they say was horrific and traumatic.

00:14The body of a 39-year-old woman was found with serious injuries,

00:19and police are now searching for her partner, Christopher James McLockney,

00:23who they say may be armed with a gun.

00:26This person is described as being Caucasian in appearance.

00:30He has red ginger, very short hair.

00:33He's of thin build and believed to be about 175 to 178 centimetres in height.

00:40An autopsy will be conducted to determine the woman's cause of death,

00:44but detectives say a gun had gone off at the property before they arrived.

00:49Police believe a child was also home at the time

00:52and had run down the road desperately looking for help.

00:56The child was seen by persons passing by, not from the area,

01:00who stopped and supported this young child,

01:07Christopher McLockney had been in a relationship with the deceased since June this year,

01:12and they lived together at the Ellalong Street property.

01:15Police say they both had strong ties with the local area.
