00:00Okay, so on the 22nd of March 2022, ambulance and police were called to a report from Amy Pugh
00:21that she had found her husband, Kyle Pugh, hanging. She called police and ambulance in a hysterical
00:29manner, stating that she'd managed to drag him into the kitchen and she was commencing CPR.
00:35Hello, can I have a heart in a speech? My husband's hung himself. Okay. How did my husband get?
00:42No, I'm a let up. Okay, okay, okay, my darling. Okay. Oh no, oh no, my darling. Oh no. I'm going to get some help arranged.
00:53I'm going to get some help arranged. Okay. Just give me escape compressions.
00:57Okay, okay, okay. Okay.
01:04Amy and Kyle were a married couple. They'd been together for a number of years. However, they had separated
01:20and Kyle was in a new relationship at the time of his death.
01:24I've been sitting here playing music, drinking. Just telling him to go f*** himself, thinking that he's not here,
01:32that he's on the way to his girlfriend's. I've been literally sat here thinking the most
01:37horrible things about him. Oh no, no, no. Speak to your dad, okay? Speak to your dad.
01:44So our investigation showed through looking at Amy's phone records that she had in fact been on the
01:52phone to her father for approximately 20 minutes before she summoned medical help for Kyle. This
01:58included at one point a six-minute video call. She then called ambulance saying that she had just
02:03found him hanging and was hysterical on the phone and was directed by the call taker to commence CPR.
02:09Absolutely brilliant. Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push. Come on, my darling. You've got this. You've got this.
02:19You f***ing idiot. I don't know why you did this. Come on, my darling. I don't know why you did this. Come on.
02:27A postmortem was conducted and ultimately, after a number of medical experts were consulted,
02:35this showed that Kyle had died due to the reason of compression to his neck. It was also discovered
02:41that he had a fractured eye socket and a fractured nose. The prosecution case was that that was inflicted
02:47by Amy, either by a headlock or some form of compression, although we will never know exactly
02:55what form that took.
02:56No, it's just because there's a lot of things going on at the minute.
03:01Amy presented as erratic. She was intoxicated. She was very difficult to reason with. However,
03:09for the officers at the scene, this would be consistent with somebody who was in shock,
03:13who just discovered their husband hanging. So they tried to assist her in any way that they could,
03:19but she was very difficult to communicate with.
03:23I don't know, mate. That's why all the medical professionals are in there at the minute.
03:39Amy would have been very aware of Kyle's vulnerabilities, and I believe that she callously used his vulnerabilities
03:51in a way to try and protect herself and evade the justice that she now faces.
03:57Kyle was taken to hospital and sadly died the next day surrounded by his family. A murder investigation
04:18was launched after concerns were raised by Kyle's family. They believed that Amy was acting in an erratic
04:25and strange way. Some of the facts that were being put forward didn't seem to add up to
04:31them and most concerning to them was the fact that Kyle's phone was missing. So they reported
04:37their concerns to the police and West Mercia Police launched an investigation into the circumstances
04:43surrounding Kyle's death.
04:45You are now under arrest on suspicion of murder.
04:47What?!
04:49This is on the basis of a post-mortem today and an update from the post-mortem.
04:55So Amy was interviewed by, on a number of occasions, by officers from West Mercia Police. She never
05:01admitted what had happened in the house that night. She has shown no remorse for what has happened and
05:07throughout the trial maintained her insistence that she found him hanging.
05:11Can you charge him with this story then or are you just going to need to interview me?
05:15I'd like to pay tribute first of all to Kyle's family who've been
05:23dignified in the face of a very long police investigation due to the fact that we needed to
05:43obtain complex medical expert evidence. This has led to a delay in us able to be bringing this case to
05:50trial and the family have been patient and stuck with the police so I am thankful to them for that.
05:57I'd also like to say that this has been an incredibly difficult investigation for the officers
06:01so again I'd like to pay tribute to the investigation team for all the hard work that they have put in
06:06to obtaining justice for Kyle. So it is an unusual case to have a female convicted of a domestic murder
06:13and I would just like to reassure the public that West Mercia Police takes all domestic abuse
06:19seriously and I hope this case demonstrates that we leave no stone unturned to investigate the
06:26circumstances of any death in a domestic setting and that includes male victims as was Kyle.
06:33And I'd like to pay tribute to Kyle it's easy to lose sight of the fact that he was a real human being
06:38and he was very loved by his family, he was well known in Telford in the music community and he was
06:44running a business, he had a new relationship and his life should have been on the up. I hope we have
06:50done justice to Kyle today with this result at court.
