00:00Can the Blue Jays close things out tonight or does Freddie Freeman show
00:04Heyo Tanya and the boys got themselves a little magic left in them.
00:07Let's talk all things game six with MLB insider John Heyman.
00:12John, appreciate you coming on with us today.
00:15Big game tonight.
00:17So can you give us everything that you think we need to know
00:20and everything you're kind of keeping your eye out on in game six tonight?
00:24Well, the Blue Jays obviously can clinch the world championship tonight.
00:29Maybe four games to two if they do win it.
00:31And they have seems like the momentum on their side winning the two games
00:35after that 18 inning game.
00:37It's funny.
00:37This is the second time the Dodgers have been in this situation
00:40where they won an 18 inning World Series game happened in 2018.
00:44Then the loss the next two ended up losing the World Series.
00:47This case they have lost two in a row right now.
00:49It feels like it's all going the Blue Jays way.
00:52The one thing the Dodgers really have gone for them in this elimination game.
00:56And Yoshinobu Yamamoto is pitching for them.
01:00That is their best pitcher in this postseason.
01:03Obviously, Stelts had some big games,
01:04but not been quite as consistent as Yamamoto has.
01:09That wouldn't be the reason to really feel like you've got someone
01:12to hang your hat on if you are a Dodger fan right now.
01:14Obviously, they've got Otani and Freeman and Betts, as you mentioned.
01:18But the Dodgers aren't hitting.
01:20Their bullpen is questionable.
01:21They've lost the home field.
01:24We are here in Canada right now where it is 44 degrees.
01:27Feels like 29.
01:28At least that's what they tell me.
01:30And Jays got it all going their way,
01:33except for Yamamoto right now standing in their way.
01:35But Jays just need to win one out of two to win this World Series
01:38in what would be a pretty big upset.
01:41Not the biggest I've seen, but a fairly big one.
01:44Let's stay on Yamamoto because we've seen some pretty much world-class pitching
01:49in this World Series so far.
01:51I've read a fun stat where only three pitchers have thrown
01:54three consecutive complete games in the postseason.
01:57Yamamoto is going to get that start tonight at the Rogers Center
02:00where he threw his second consecutive complete game,
02:03and that was last Saturday.
02:05Do you think he has enough in the tank for Dave Roberts
02:09to let him go the distance tonight?
02:11Well, I think Dave Roberts is going to want him let him go the distance
02:14based on how their bullpen has a 4-5-6 ERA this postseason,
02:20and you wouldn't even think it was that good.
02:21Feels like a relief roulette right now for the Dodgers.
02:24So they certainly would like to see Yamamoto do it a third time in a row,
02:28which would be incredible.
02:29There were only 29 complete games in the regular season this year.
02:32For him to do it three times in a row in a postseason
02:35where your competition is obviously that is strongest,
02:38would be amazing.
02:39So certainly Yamamoto and Otani are the reason the Dodgers are still alive,
02:44and they'll rest their hopes on Yamamoto today to get them to game seven.
02:51Obviously, things seem to be going Toronto's way.
02:54Yamamoto is definitely the one guy standing in their way right now.
02:58Otani, world star, absolute superstar, especially with the bat.
03:03But when it comes to his availability on the mound tonight,
03:06do you think that we see him at some point kind of pitch in relief?
03:10And can you kind of break down to the casuals that are watching
03:13the rules regarding his two-way player status tonight?
03:17Right, yeah, that's the reason I doubt we'll see him in relief.
03:20Don't count it as a 0% chance, but I don't see it.
03:23If he comes in in relief, they lose the DH.
03:26I just don't see that happening.
03:29You know, it just does not seem very probable at this point.
03:32Don't want to lose the DH.
03:34Obviously, they have the best DH in the world in Otani.
03:37So I'm not seeing that as a possibility.
03:40I mean, you know, they're going to tell you all hands on deck.
03:42That comes with some limits.
03:44In this case, it's a completely unique situation
03:46where a potential reliever is also your best hitter.
03:50So they don't want to lose their best hitter.
03:52I understand their relief situation isn't good.
03:55But to me, the key is Yamamoto.
03:58They want him to go the whole way.
04:00If he doesn't, certainly Sasaki is the main guy.
04:04Then they've got other guys that they can try.
04:06Trinan obviously was great last year.
04:08He's been good in the clutch overall.
04:10But, I mean, their circle of trust is down to like two to three guys top.
04:14So it is a tough situation for Dave Roberts.
04:17But right now, he's got his fingers crossed that Yamamoto can pull off the improbable
04:22and do that third straight complete game in the postseason.
04:25Final thoughts, John.
04:26Finish us off.
04:27Is this the night where the Blue Jays officially take down the defending champs?
04:31Well, I'm not good on predictions.
04:33I'll say this.
04:34At this point, I do think the Blue Jays are winning this World Series.
04:37I think Yamamoto gives the Dodgers a fighting chance tonight to delay it to game seven.
04:42But it's difficult to say the way that the Dodgers are hitting right now.
04:46And I get you.
04:46Savage has been savage.
04:48He's been unbelievable.
04:49And he was incredible against the Yankees and incredible against the Dodgers.
04:53And the two gems, 23 strikeouts, three hits.
04:56So, you know, that's part of the reason the Dodgers have never seen him before other than
05:01game one for a few innings.
05:03But they're just not hitting.
05:05They didn't hit that great against Milwaukee.
05:07They won it with the pitching.
05:08We're going to need to see Betts do better.
05:10We're going to see Freeman obviously had the big home run that won game three in a walk-off.
05:15Second guy, first guy to ever hit two walk-off World Series home runs.
05:19So they have all-time greats on this team.
05:21They have all-famers on this team.
05:22But right now, it feels like things are going the Blue Jays' way.
05:26I'm not going to say it's going to be tonight, definitely.
05:28But look, Toronto, nobody saw this coming.
05:31Even though they won one more game than the Dodgers, they did not have the names.
05:35But they do have a complete team.
05:37They have a very deep lineup.
05:39They have a deep bench.
05:40Their bullpen is doing better than we would have expected.
05:43And your savage has been really a savior for that rotation, which obviously looked very
05:48veteran at the beginning of the year.
05:51But, you know, Scherzer has gone out and pitched twice here in the postseason.
05:54But obviously, they lost Berrios.
05:57Bassett is now a great bullpen piece.
06:00So, I mean, you know, right now, there's so much going the Blue Jays' way.
06:04It's hard to see the Dodgers, the $400 million Dodgers, winning two games in a row.
06:08Never know.
06:09Never can say never.
06:10But right now, it feels like it is going all the Blue Jays' way.
06:13John Hamey, we appreciate your time and having fun out there at Game 6.
06:18Thanks a lot, Brandon.
