00:00Welcome to our latest video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog, where we take a close look at the
00:11Volkswagen T-Rock, a compact SUV that is shaking up the market. The VW T-Rock cleverly positions
00:19itself between the tried and tested Golf and the larger Tiguan and offers an impressive mix of
00:24style, functionality and modern technology in a length of 4.20 meters. In the current ADAC test,
00:32the models with the 1.5 TSI petrol engine and the 2.0 TDI diesel engine were examined in detail,
00:39with the 1.5 TSI performing significantly better than its diesel counterpart.
00:45The Volkswagen T-Rock is based on the same platform as the Golf and shares the same
00:49engine range and many technical components with the best seller. However, the T-Rock's striking
00:56box design and higher seating position give it a much trendier SUV feel. Inside, the T-Rock offers
01:04generous space for the front seats, while there is slightly less room for the passengers' knees in
01:08the back seat. However, people up to 1.80 meters tall will still feel comfortable in the rear.
01:15The T-Rock's trunk has a volume of 445 L on paper. Promising. However, ADAZ measurements show that
01:26in practice only 245 L are available, as a subwoofer in the spare wheel wall blocks the luggage compartment
01:32floor. Without the subwoofer, 375 L are available and with the seats folded down, the T-Rock can hold up
01:40to 150 L. Without the subwoofer, it can even hold up to 1145 L. The T-Rock is primarily aimed at young
01:50and young at heart buyers, which is reflected in the wide range of customization options.
01:56LED headlights and tinted taillights are installed as standard, while LED matrix lights with illuminated
02:02radiator grille and new graphic taillights with dynamic turn signal function are available as options.
02:10The color palette has become much more muted after the facelift, which is reflected in 5 new exterior
02:17paint finishes and redesigned alloy wheels from 17 to 19 inches. Great emphasis has been placed on
02:24quality in the interior. Fabric surfaces are used as standard, while the style and airline equipment
02:31lines feature artificial leather surfaces, which noticeably enhances the previously criticized hard
02:36plastic interior. The T-Rock has also undergone technological advancements. The infotainment
02:45systems have been enlarged to 8.0 or 9.2 inches and the digital cockpit is now standard.
02:52With WeConnect+, the T-Rock offers natural online voice control as well as access to streaming services.
02:59Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be used wirelessly as an option.
03:03The assistance systems have also been significantly expanded, with front assist and lane assist now
03:09integrated as standard.
03:13In addition, there is the new IQ Drive Travel Assist and the Predictive ACC Cruise Control,
03:18which enable assisted steering, braking and acceleration at speeds of up to 210 km per hour.
03:24Local speed warnings, town entrances, intersections and roundabouts are taken into account through the
03:32integration of front cameras as well as GPS and map data, which further increases driving safety.
03:41The T-Rock exhibits different driving behavior in the various versions.
03:46The diesel with 400 Nm of torque and the equally powerful petrol engine both achieve good acceleration values.
03:51The diesel sprints from 0 to 100 km per hour in 5.7 seconds, while the petrol engine does it in 4.8 seconds.
04:02However, the interior is quite loud due to the dominant hum of the diesel engine,
04:06especially when accelerating, which is noticeable in comparison to the significantly quieter Golf.
04:12The fuel consumption of the diesel is 6L in the ADAA-K Ecodisk, which is acceptable considering the slightly
04:22raised body and the equipment with automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
04:28The petrol engine, on the other hand, consumes 6.9L of premium in the realistic ecotest, which is rather high for a vehicle of this size.
04:36The different driving dynamics of the style and R-line versions are particularly noticeable,
04:43while the style 1 variant with its comfortable setup absorbs bumps impressively smoothly,
04:48while the airline with its firm suspension setup offers crisper handling and more precise feedback from the road.
04:53This makes the T-Rock Air the top model, a true driving machine.
05:01With a 2.0L four-cylinder TSI engine, 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque,
05:07it reaches 100 km per hour in 4.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km per hour.
05:15The standard combination with the C-Bang DSG and the four-motion all-wheel drive ensures superior driving performance.
05:25The basic T-Rock starts at âŹ27,850, making it an attractive entry-level model.
05:32However, the prices increase significantly for more power, all-wheel drive and better equipment.
05:37The tested TSI with dual-clutch transmission currently costs âŹ38,500 and reaches up to âŹ4,325 with optional extras.
05:49Despite the higher costs, the T-Rock offers solid value for money considering its equipment and driving dynamics.
05:57A convertible version of the T-Rock will also be available by the time the model changes in 2025,
06:02giving the compact SUV additional versatility.
06:08Overall, the Volkswagen T-Rock shows that it is not just a small Golf,
06:12but an attractive option in the compact SUV segment thanks to its combination of style, technology and handling.
