00:00Welcome to the video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog,
00:04which features an exciting comparison between the new Jeep Compass and the also brand new Volkswagen Tiguan.
00:12Please note that our comparison is not a true direct comparison, but a virtual side-by-side.
00:19The vehicles shown are for visual illustration purposes only.
00:23Compact SUVs are still arguably the hottest thing on the European car market,
00:30and with the third generation of the Jeep Compass and the recently introduced new edition of the VW Tiguan,
00:35we have two representatives that could hardly be more different, even though they compete in the same segment.
00:43While the Jeep Compass has reinvented itself from a rather inconspicuous previous generation,
00:48the Tiguan, as Germany's best-selling model in this class, stands on a completely different pedestal.
00:55Let's start with the drivetrain.
00:57The Jeep Compass is future-oriented and completely foregoes diesel engines.
01:02Instead, it offers a wide range of electrified variants.
01:06The entry-level model is a 1.2L-mil hybrid with 145 horsepower.
01:11There's also a plug-in hybrid with 195 horsepower,
01:14which, according to the manufacturer, can travel up to approximately 83 kilometers purely on electricity.
01:20The fully electric version is available with three power outputs, 210, 230, and 375 horsepower.
01:29Interestingly, only the most powerful version is available with all-wheel drive.
01:33The range of the all-electric variants is up to approximately 650 kilometers according to the standard.
01:39The Volkswagen Tiguan, on the other hand, remains true to the diesel engine and offers it in two different power outputs.
01:47These are joined by a conventional gasoline engine, two mild hybrids, and two plug-in hybrids.
01:52The latter can travel up to around 100 kilometers purely on electricity and, depending on the version,
01:58produce between 130 and 272 horsepower.
02:02Front and all-wheel drive are also available here.
02:05Those who want to drive exclusively on electricity will have to choose a different model from VW, such as the ID.4.
02:15The new generation Jeep Compass is priced below the 40,000 euros mark for the base model.
02:21Two first-edition models have already been announced.
02:25The 145-horsepower hybrid starts at just under 42,000 euros.
02:30The electric version with 230 horsepower costs around 50,000 euros.
02:35This places the Compass firmly in the upper compact class, but offers modern technology and a fresh design.
02:43The Volkswagen Tiguan starts at a similar price, with a 131-horsepower petrol engine available from around 38,000 euros.
02:52The cheapest diesel costs around 43,000 euros, and anyone interested in the 272-horsepower plug-in hybrid should expect to pay at least 58,000 euros.
03:02The pricing reflects the strong brand positioning as well as the range of comfort and technology features.
03:11Visually, the two rivals also differ significantly.
03:14The length of the vehicles differs only minimally.
03:19A single centimeter separates the Jeep Compass, 4.5 meters, from the VW Tiguan, 4.4 meters.
03:26In terms of width, the Jeep, at 1.90 meters, brings a noticeably more massive appearance to the road,
03:32while the VW, at 1.80 meters, is somewhat narrower.
03:36The wheelbase of the Compass, at 2.77 meters, is longer than that of the Tiguan, 2.860 meters, which should also be noticeable in the interior.
03:46In terms of height, both are almost identical.
03:50Jeep has placed a strong emphasis on its own brand identity with the new Compass.
03:53The vertical lines, robust wheel arches, and reduced overhangs, which, together with scratch-resistant materials, convey a touch of off-road FLIR,
04:04even though most models will be primarily at home on asphalt, or striking.
04:09The Tiguan, on the other hand, appears more sober, almost sober, and its smooth body makes it seem less distinctive than its predecessor.
04:17Inside, the Jeep Passat is modern and significantly improved over the previous generation.
04:26A 10.55-inch digital instrument cluster and an impressive 16-inch central display are standard.
04:36This also controls the air conditioning, although practical physical buttons for frequently used functions remain below the display.
04:42A Rarity in Today's Cockpit Design
04:46Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an Intelligent Voice Assistant are standard.
04:53Extras such as a head-up display and a semi-automatic lane change assistant are available for an additional charge.
04:59The well-thought-out storage layout, with a total of 34 liters of storage space for small items, is practical.
05:05The trunk offers a volume of at least 550 liters and can be variably expanded thanks to the 40x2040 folding rear seat backrest.
05:19The interior of the Tiguan follows the latest VW design language and, depending on the equipment,
05:25integrates a 12.9-inch or even 15-inch touchscreen combined with a 10.5-inch digital instrument panel.
05:31In contrast to the Compass, Volkswagen has completely dispensed with physical controls,
05:39instead relying on touch panels and voice control, including an assistant based on chat GPT.
05:45A welcome return.
05:48The captive steering wheel buttons have been replaced with traditional push buttons, making operation much more intuitive.
05:56VW has improved the materials and quality.
05:59The interior is also impressively spacious, including a sliding rear seat with adjustable backrests.
06:07Trunk capacity ranges from 652 to 1650 liters, significantly more than the Jeep Compass.
06:16Both vehicles offer modern technology, extensive connectivity solutions,
06:21and plenty of space suitable for families and frequent travelers alike.
06:24The differences lie in the details, from the engine philosophy to the interior's operating logic.
06:32Whether the Jeep Compass' more striking appearance or the sophisticated all-round competence of the Volkswagen Tiguan
06:38is the deciding factor ultimately remains a matter of taste.
