00:11look at the 5th generation Lexus RX for the 2023 and 2024 model years.

00:21Lexus Luxury SUV has continued to evolve in recent years and now features an impressive

00:26range of hybrid powertrains as well as a brand new sports option that makes the model even more

00:31appealing. The 5th generation Lexus RX marks a significant step forward in the manufacturer's

00:39hybrid technology. Compared to the previous generation, which was only equipped with the

00:44standard RX 450h hybrid, the new RX offers three different hybrid options. In addition to the

00:52conventional hybrid version, these also include a plug-in hybrid variant and, for the first time,

00:57a turbocharged petrol engine in a hybrid system. Particularly noteworthy is the new plug-in hybrid

01:04RX 450h+, which is equipped with a generous 8.1 kW battery and enables an electric range of up to

01:1265 km. This innovation demonstrates how Lexus is expanding its hybrid strategy and adapting to

01:19the demands of premium competitors such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Another highlight of the new

01:28generation is the introduction of the F-Sport design variant, which will be available from autumn 2023.

01:34This sporty version impresses with gloss black painted 21-inch wheels, a specific radiator grille

01:40in a honeycomb design and new side air intakes in the front apron.

01:44The bumper lips and side skirts are also finished in black, while matte silver decorative strips and

01:52chrome applications on the exterior mirrors, the side window surrounds and the lower rear bumper

01:57provide an elegant contrast. Inside, the F-Sport design equipment extends the executive line with

02:06leather seat covers and 64-color ambient lighting, which further enhances the interior.

02:11The design of the new Lexus RX has been significantly modernized and presents itself with sportier lines.

02:20The revised front section is striking, with the nose above the radiator grille now integrated more

02:25broadly into the entire apron. The silhouette of the vehicle remains true to the previous lines,

02:33but the roofline has been designed to slope downwards with a chrome strip, giving the SUV a more dynamic

02:39appearance. The sideline impresses with a stronger contouring of the body, which models a voluptuous

02:47hip into the sheet metal from the A-pillar at sill height. The rear of the new Lexus RX also gains

02:54significantly in contour with an apron that features additional contrasting surfaces reminiscent of

02:59ventilation grilles, as well as a new LED light strip that visually connects the taillights and

03:05lends them a sporty touch. Under the hood of the new RX, Lexus has fundamentally changed the powertrain.

03:11The V6 engine with a displacement of 3.5L previously used in the RX 450h has been replaced by a four-cylinder

03:19engine with a displacement of 2.5L, which is familiar from the current Toyota Revere. This change not only

03:26ensures more efficient power delivery, but also significantly expands the hybrid options. In addition to the HIV hybrid

03:34RX 350h without external charging option and the plug-in hybrid RX 5H Plus with a powerful 8.1kW battery,

03:42Lexus is introducing the new top-of-the-range RX 500h. Equipped with 371hp, this model marks the first

03:51turbocharged petrol engine in the group's hybrid system and sets new standards in terms of performance

03:56and efficiency. The 5th generation Lexus RX impresses not only with its versatile drive options, but also

04:03with its optimized dimensions. The vehicle length remains exactly the same as its predecessor, while

04:11the wheelbase has been increased by 60mm, the width by 25mm and the track width by 15mm at the front and 50mm at the rear.

04:20These changes, combined with a smaller rear overhang, result in significantly improved space,

04:29making the interior of the RX even more comfortable and spacious.

04:35Inside the Lexus RX, the brand relies on the so-called Tatsuna cockpit, a concept that is already used in the NX and RZ.

04:42The term Tatsuna stands for the reins of a horse and is intended to illustrate that controlling the vehicle

04:49and its functions is particularly intuitive and direct.

04:54The cockpit is dominated by a large 14-inch central display, which clearly presents the most important

05:00vehicle data and infotainment functions. The control area of the center console is positioned

05:06towards the driver's seat, which enables ergonomic use and focuses on a comfortable driving experience.

05:12All variants of the new Lexus RX feature electric all-wheel drive, which offers optimum traction and

05:18driving stability. The basic version RX350H delivers a system output of 245 horsepower, while the plug-in

05:26hybrid RX54H plus impresses with 366 horsepower. The top model RX500H achieves an impressive 371 horsepower

05:37and sets new standards in the premium SUV segment. The plug-in hybrid RX450 plus is

05:42particularly interesting for the German market, as it achieves the performance data of the previous

05:47RX450 with a V6 engine, but impresses with improved driving performance. Thanks to the greater proportion

05:54of drive power from the electric motors compared to the combustion engine, the driving behavior feels

05:59more confident and dynamic. The 8.1 kW lithium-ion battery of the RX450 dive plus enables an electric range

06:09of up to 65 kilometers before the gasoline engine is switched on. Lexus emphasizes that even with an

06:16empty traction battery, the efficient hybrid system ensures moderate fuel consumption of around 6.5L per

06:22100 kilometers, which is on par with the RX350H. In addition to the impressive drive options, the new

06:31Lexus RX offers numerous assistance systems that make driving safer and more comfortable. One of the

06:38innovations is the automatic cleaning of the cameras that feed the digital rear view mirror and the 360

06:44degrees display. A fully automatic parking system is also available, which works like in the Lexus LS

06:52luxury sedan and controls the steering, accelerator and brakes. This system offers a memory function for

07:00three regularly used parking spaces and makes parking in tight spaces much easier. The improved Lexus

07:07pre-crash safety system now reacts more quickly to hazards and detects motorcycles and other objects

07:13more accurately, further enhancing road safety. A new intersection assist function prevents collisions

07:21with oncoming vehicles and crossing pedestrians. The emergency steering assist helps the driver avoid

07:28obstacles and dangerous situations. The driver monitor, which uses a camera above the steering wheel,

07:35monitors the driver's condition and warns if there are signs of drowsiness or distraction.

07:39If the driver fails to react, the system can slow down or stop the vehicle.

07:47The Safe Exit Assist function combines the electromechanical door opening ELEGE with the

07:52Blind Spot Assistant. If it detects cyclists or other road users approaching from behind,

07:59a visual and acoustic warning is triggered and the doors are prevented from unlocking in order to avoid accidents.

08:05Sales of the new Lexus RX began at the end of 2022, with deliveries starting in January 2023.

08:13Prices start at €68,650 for the RX 350h. The plug-in hybrid RX 450h Plus costs at least €75,000,

08:24while the top model RX 500h has a starting price of at least €92,500 in the price list.

08:31The previous long-wheelbase version of the RX has been discontinued without replacement,

08:36allowing Lexus to focus more on the new hybrid variants.

08:40The new F-Sport design variant is only available in combination with the RX 350h and the RX 450h Plus,

08:47with base prices of €78,000 and €480,000 respectively.
