Hurricane Melissa has unleashed catastrophic flooding across Haiti, killing at least 30 people and leaving 20 others missing, according to authorities. Most of the devastation has been reported in the country’s southern region.

00:09In Petit Guayave, residents describe torrents of water and mud sweeping through homes.
00:15One survivor, Jean Descroches, says only two members of his family escaped in time.
00:21The rest were lost in the flood.
00:24The water suddenly came rushing down on us.
00:32There were seven of us at home and only two survived.
00:35We had three young children and two elderly relatives we couldn't save.
00:39The flood swept them away and they died.
00:42People in Petit Guayave say they have been without food and no shelters have been provided.
