00:24Experts will tell you language evolves over time,

00:27but Generation Z and Alpha, they did it in about 6-7 seconds.

00:45If it feels like you're hearing it out of nowhere in the past few weeks,

00:48it's actually been around for longer than that.

00:51So much so that it earned Dictionary.com's 2025 Word of the Year,

00:55announced Wednesday, chosen for capturing how fast youth culture can turn nonsense

01:00into a national trend.

01:03Searches spiked this summer, and the start of the school year only solidified it.

01:07The term was born out of a track by Philadelphia rapper Skrilla,

01:11who released Doot Doot 6-7 at the end of 2024.

01:15The rapper told the Wall Street Journal the song wasn't even supposed to leave the studio,

01:25but after he leaked it, kids ran with it.

01:28It's now at 15 million YouTube views, more than 48 million Spotify plays,

01:34and millions of kids who began using the term and the signature hand motion

01:38that goes with it as part of their everyday vocabulary.

01:41A linguist from Georgetown University said in a report that language typically has meaning,

01:51but this is different.

01:52Some think it's a way of saying so-so, but for most kids, it's just a funny, random trend.

01:58So have we reached peak 6-7?

02:01A Google Trends chart suggests probably not, but teachers have definitely had enough.

02:06Come on, let's go outside.

02:09Some teachers now keep a tally of how many times their students say it.

02:16While others take away 6 plus 7 minutes of recess time if anyone says it.

02:21My mom, who's been teaching for more than 35 years, has a different approach.

02:26While this may seem easy, results may vary depending on your tone.

02:31And ironically, adults using the trend might be the secret to ending it.

02:36Some people online have theories that when parents and teachers start saying 6-7,

02:40it instantly becomes uncool.

02:43Take financial advisor Douglas Boneparth's Halloween post on X,

02:46he and his wife dressed as 6 and 7.

02:49He said their kids hated it, by the way.

02:51Like every viral phrase before it, from skibbity to riz,

02:556-7 will eventually fade when the next random combo of words or numbers takes over.

03:00And if you thought 6-7 was over, not so fast.

03:05The kids tell me there's already another number.

03:08But I can't tell you what it is because no one likes a snitch.
