00:00CBS News Loses Anchor Amid New Boss Taking Over
00:05A major shift is coming to one of the country's oldest newsrooms.
00:09John Dickerson, long-time CBS political analyst and current co-anchor of CBS Evening News,
00:14announced he'll be stepping down in December, marking a big shakeup just weeks after Bari
00:19Weiss took over as editor-in-chief at CBS News.
00:22Dickerson, who has been with CBS since 2009, said in an Instagram post that his last day
00:29will come at the end of the year.
00:31He reflected on his years with the network, saying,
00:34I am extremely grateful for all that CBS gave me, the work, the audience's attention, and
00:40the honor of being a part of the network's history.
00:43In fact, they continued to slip, trailing behind ABC's World News Tonight and NBC's
00:48Nightly News.
00:49Now, all eyes are on what Weiss plans to do next.
00:54Bari Weiss, a former New York Times writer who rose to prominence after challenging the
00:58paper's internal politics and then launching her own independent media platform, officially
01:03joined CBS News earlier this month.
01:06Some insiders are already calling her leadership a reset for CBS, one that may include more
01:12shakeups behind the scenes and on camera.
01:15But it hasn't gone unnoticed that his exit comes shortly after another high-level staff
01:19member, head of standards Claudia Milne, also said she was leaving the network.
01:24Fox News anchor Brett Beier has allegedly been mentioned as a potential outside hire, though
01:28Beier is still under contract with Fox through 2028.
01:32Still, the fact that his name is even being discussed speaks volumes about the direction
01:38CBS might be looking to go under Weiss's leadership.
01:41And with ratings falling and viewer trust fading, Weiss might have been brought in not just to
01:46manage the newsroom, but to radically transform it.
