00:00The jobs picture just got an update. Last week, the economy added only 22,000 positions,
00:06and now the Bureau of Labor Statistics says March 2025 actually had 911,000 fewer jobs
00:14than previously reported. The correction centers around two main sources. Some businesses reported
00:22fewer jobs on state records than on the monthly survey, and some did not respond to the survey,
00:27which can skew early numbers. By industry, trade, transportation, and utilities lost 226,000 jobs,
00:36manufacturing jobs fell 95,000, and leisure and hospitality dropped 176,000. Job numbers are
00:44always subject to revision. The BLS bases monthly figures on surveys of about 121,000 businesses,
00:52but state payroll records provide a more complete picture, but that data doesn't show up until
00:57weeks later. Annual benchmark revisions align these sources to give a more accurate view of the labor
01:04market. Final and official revisions for this year will be published in February of 2026. Read the
