00:00U.S. President Donald Trump returned to Washington after a face-to-face meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday.
00:08Trump called the meeting a success and said he would cut tariffs on China.
00:12In return, Beijing agreed to allow for the export of rare earth minerals and would start buying American soybeans.
00:18At the helm of Chinese relations.
00:21I thought it was an amazing meeting.
00:23He's a great leader, a leader of a very powerful, very strong country, China.
00:32And what can I say?
00:35We have an outstanding group of decisions, I think, that was made.
00:43Trump had implemented the tariffs as a punishment on China for selling chemicals used to make fentanyl in the U.S.
00:50In response, China hit back by imposing additional export restrictions on its rare earth minerals.
00:57While these controls were initially a response to U.S. tariffs, the EU had become collateral damage in the dispute.
01:04Chinese President Xi Jinping admitted the U.S. and China did not see, quote, eye to eye with each other at times,
01:11adding that it was normal that two leading economies have friction from time to time.
01:15However, he said that China and the U.S. are able to help each other and succeed and prosper together.
01:23Trump announced that he will travel to China in April and also invited Xi for a visit to the United States.
