President Donald Trump announced he plans to visit China in April to meet President Xi Jinping, with Xi expected to travel to the United States later this year. Speaking to reporters, Trump said the relationship between Washington and Beijing is “very good right now,” though he did not provide specific dates for either visit.

In an interview with NBC News’ Tom Llamas, Trump confirmed the April trip, saying he will travel to China first, followed by Xi’s return visit to the U.S. toward the end of the year. The planned exchanges signal continued high-level engagement between the two powers amid ongoing economic and geopolitical tensions.

00:00Mr. President, is climate cooperation with China no longer in America's interest?
00:05And could you please confirm that you're going to visit China the first week of April?
00:09Yeah, I'll be visiting President Xi in April. Look forward to it.
00:12He's coming here later in the year. And I look very much forward to it.
00:16No, our relationship with China is very good right now.
00:19In terms of economic growth, we have $18 trillion being invested in this country right now.
00:25The most ever of any country by far. Not even close.
00:28Think of it no matter where, not just here.
00:31$18 trillion is coming in. And that money is being spent right now as we speak.
00:35And new plants and equipments. And you may have heard Lee mention, I mentioned also,
00:41that over $100 billion is going to be spent in this very short period of time
00:45just by foreign auto companies on building auto plants in the United States.
00:50The greatest thing that ever happened to the United Auto Workers.
00:53The head man has not been nice to me, but now I understand he's saying
00:57this is the greatest auto president in history.
01:00But the auto workers gave me their vote, and they knew what I was doing.
01:04And they know what needed to be done. The tariffs saved them.
01:07But this has now taken it to a level that I think, Lee, that nobody ever thought even possible.
01:12They thought this was — nobody would have the courage to do it.
01:16We have to have the courage to do it, because we're making America great again.
01:19And this is a big — a big factor in making our country great.
01:23If you look at some of these cars, they didn't even work.
01:25They had computers all over the place trying to save a half an ounce of fuel.
01:31We have fuel for the next 500 to 1,000 years under our feet.
01:35And they're trying like hell to save a half an ounce of fuel.
01:40The whole thing is just crazy.
01:43Please. Go ahead, please.
01:44Mr. President, is climate cooperation with China no longer in America's interest?
01:50And could you please confirm that you're going to visit China the first week of April?
01:54Yeah, I'll be visiting President Xi in April. Look forward to it.
01:57He's coming here later in the year. And I look very much forward to it.
02:01No, our relationship with China is very good right now.
02:04And this is, you know, not relevant too much having to do with China,
02:09what we're announcing today. But no, my relationship with President Xi is very good. Yes.
02:13Mr. President, following your meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu yesterday,
02:17has your thinking changed at all as it relates to these negotiations with Iran?
02:22No, we have to make a deal.
02:23We have to make a deal. Otherwise, it's going to be very traumatic.
02:27Very traumatic. I don't want that to happen, but we have to make a deal.
02:31They should have made a deal the first time, and they got Midnight Hammer instead.
02:35And this will be very traumatic for Iran if they don't make a deal.
02:39Look, if they don't make a deal, then it'll be a different story.
02:43But we had a very good meeting yesterday with Bibi Netanyahu.
02:49And he understands. But it's ultimately up to me.
02:52If the deal isn't a very fair deal and a very good deal with Iran,
02:57then it's going to be, I think, a very difficult time for them in the back.
03:04I guess over the next month, something like that. Yeah, it shouldn't take —
03:08I mean, it should happen quickly. They should agree very quickly. Yeah.
03:11Mr. President, we might be heading into a partial government shutdown.
03:14When was the last time you spoke with Chuck Schumer?
03:16And do you still feel Democrats are negotiating in good faith?
03:19Well, a week ago I spoke. But, you know, we have to protect our law enforcement.
03:24Actually, the Supreme Court gave a ruling or one of the courts gave a very big ruling on masks
03:29that you have the right to use them, you know, for personal protection if you want.
03:32So I don't know how that interjects. You know, they want our law enforcement to be total —
03:38totally vulnerable and put them in a lot of danger.
03:42They have some things that are really very hard to — very, very hard to approve, frankly.
03:47As you know, it only — it's only — we had various of the other bills.
03:52That's all done. But we're left with this one.
03:55We have to protect our law enforcement. Very important.
