00:00Welcome to our latest article from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog, where we introduce you to the Hyundai Tucan.
00:12A true Tiguan rival that impresses with its radically new look in its 4th generation.
00:19Hyundai launched the 4th generation of the Tucan back in 2020, which thrilled many car enthusiasts with its completely revised design.
00:27Now, after 4 years, the Korean manufacturer is giving its popular SUV a facelift that focuses primarily on the interior.
00:39This comprehensive revision includes not only additional assistance systems, but also modernized drives, which will bring the Tucan to dealerships in Europe from spring 2024.
00:49However, the base price is likely to increase slightly, as the current starting price for the SUV is €31,440, while the plug-in hybrid is available from €4,930.
01:01Those who are still interested in the pre-facelift model can still configure it.
01:12So anyone who is not entirely satisfied with the facelift should get their hands on it now, as the visual adjustments in the facelift remain minimal.
01:20Unusually for facelifts, the Tucan's striking exterior appearance remains largely unchanged, with only small, subtle changes visible if you look closely.
01:33Particularly noticeable are the revised aprons, which Hyundai has slightly adjusted to make the implied skid plate appear more robust.
01:40The daytime running lights, which appear to merge with the grille when switched off, are now slightly larger and the main headlights next to the grille are now available as matrix leads.
01:53Of course, the sporty features are not left out.
01:58The revised radiator grille features a newly interpreted honeycomb pattern that gives the Tucan a dynamic touch.
02:04The front apron emphasizes the large central air intake, while the rear apron has been designed in a more extroverted manner and the implied diffuser appears larger.
02:16In the N-line trim, the wheel arches and trim strips on the sill are painted in the body color, which gives the vehicle an elegant and sporty look.
02:25Interestingly, Hyundai is bringing the diesel back into the Tucan portfolio with this facelift.
02:30In the V facelift, the remaining 136-horsepower diesel engine was discontinued at the end of 2023, and the weaker 116-horsepower diesel engine was no longer offered in 2022.
02:45Whether it will be the familiar 1.6L engine again and what performance it will offer remains under wraps for the time being.
02:52What is certain, however, is that the current range of drives will be retained.
02:57This means that petrol engines will continue to be available, which are offered both with a 48-volt onboard network and as a full hybrid or plug-in hybrid.
03:08Hyundai is relying on a 1.6L petrol engine with four cylinders for all of the variants mentioned, with an output of between 150 and 265 horsepower.
03:17In 2024, the plug-in hybrid will continue to be available with front-wheel drive.
03:22In the pre-facelift, all-wheel drive was available for the mild hybrid and the full hybrid, while the plug-in hybrid was only available as an all-wheel drive version.
03:30In 2024, the plug-in hybrid will also be available with front-wheel drive, which should increase the vehicle's electric range.
03:41Whether this will be achieved through adapted software or a larger battery in the hybrids as a whole remains to be seen.
03:47It is also unclear whether there will still be a manual transmission, as Hyundai has not yet confirmed this in response to inquiries.
03:57A particular highlight of the facelift is the redesigned interior.
04:02Anyone who takes a look inside the Toucan might think that the interior belongs to a next-generation model.
04:08The dashboard has been completely redesigned and the previously separately mounted screens are now enclosed in a new bracket.
04:18Similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and arranged side-by-side.
04:23Both screens have grown to 12.3 inches each, which ensures a modern and clear display.
04:29The interior of the Taksin, here designed as a sporty N-line, has been completely redesigned and has more conventional buttons to make operation more intuitive.
04:41In the future, there will also be tactile buttons for navigation control.
04:45In addition, the steering wheel, which takes a bit of getting used to, has been revised and now comes in a three-spoke design.
04:52The control unit for the automatic transmission is now located on the steering wheel, which makes handling even more convenient.
05:00Below the steering wheel, air vents now extend across the entire width of the cockpit, giving the interior a modern and airy feel.
05:09The air conditioning control panel has been retained, but has been equipped with more conventional controls.
05:15Instead of touchpads, there are now rotary controls with integrated displays for temperature adjustment, making operation easier and more intuitive.
05:26The facelift also brings a head-up display for the Taksin, which projects important information directly into the driver's field of vision, thus ensuring greater safety and comfort.
05:38The sporty N-line trim also gets a new interior with leather elements and black and red accents.
05:45Decorative stitching and details such as a red ring around the start button adds sporty and elegant touches.
05:51In addition to the visual changes, the facelift also brings new assistance systems.
05:59Over-the-air updates keep the Taksin software up to date at all times, and the new Digital Key 2.0 will be introduced in the course of 2024.
06:07With this new system, the Taksin can be unlocked, locked, and started using a smartphone without having to hold the phone to the door handle or place it in the charging cradle.
06:19The assistance systems have also been expanded.
06:23A crosswind assistant helps keep the SUV in lane in strong winds and increases driving stability at higher speeds.
06:30The occupant alarm detects movements in the interior when the car is parked, thus providing additional safety.
06:39The facelift also includes new paint colors and rims that further individualize the appearance of the Tukan.
06:46In a test, the Tukan proved itself as a 130-horsepower hybrid, but it consumes 45% more fuel than the WLTP consumption indicates.
06:55The average consumption was 9.6L, although it was 6.6L.
07:02This is of course disappointing, because the Tucson still offers plenty of space, helpful extras and high-quality materials.
07:08Just three of the model's many strengths.
07:12Overall, the new Hyundai Tucson presents itself as an attractive and versatile SUV that has a lot to offer both visually and technically.
