00:00Hurricane Melissa has downgraded to Category 1 and is moving through the Bahamas after making

00:08landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday and in Cuba early Wednesday. The storm has so far claimed the life

00:14of 49 people in the Caribbean, being Haiti, the country with the highest number of fatalities,

00:19with 40 and 10 still missing. In Jamaica, where Melissa became the worst storm in 174 years,

00:26the death toll reached 8 while in the Dominican Republic one person was reported dead and another

00:33missing. The Prime Minister of the Bahamas ordered the evacuation of six of its islands in anticipation

00:41of the storm. Arrival and the rest of the islands are also on alert, which means that the hurricane

00:49conditions are expected within 36 hours.
