00:00I saw what was a 6 and a 7 there, 67.
00:02It's only like, what, 6-7, Gavin?
00:04I think tonight was his 10th game.
00:06You want to know what time I woke up this morning?
00:08What time?
00:09Around 6-7!
00:116-7!
00:12I mean, I've been here for five years, but it's felt more like 6-7.
00:176-7.
00:18Oh, you gotta make it so...
00:19Oh, it's a 6-7.
00:206? Is that right?
00:21Oops, if I go home, I'm like, stop.
00:22I think you're doing 97.
00:24Experts will tell you language evolves over time,
00:27but Generation Z and Alpha, they did it in about 6-7 seconds.
00:35If you're confused, join the club.
00:386-7 doesn't really have a meaning.
00:40It's just a little joke that became a catch-all phrase and hand motion.
00:45If it feels like you're hearing it out of nowhere in the past few weeks,
00:48it's actually been around for longer than that.
00:51So much so that it earned Dictionary.com's 2025 Word of the Year,
00:55announced Wednesday, chosen for capturing how fast youth culture can turn nonsense into a national trend.
01:02Searches spiked this summer, and the start of the school year only solidified it.
01:07The term was born out of a track by Florida rapper Skrilla,
01:10who released Doot Doot 6-7 at the end of 2024.
01:13The rapper told the Wall Street Journal the song wasn't even supposed to leave the studio,
01:24but after he leaked it, kids ran with it.
01:27It's now at 15 million YouTube views, more than 48 million Spotify plays,
01:32and millions of kids who began using the term and the signature hand motion
01:37that goes with it as part of their everyday vocabulary.
01:44A linguist from Georgetown University said in a report that language typically has meaning,
01:49but this is different.
01:51Some think it's a way of saying so-so,
01:53but for most kids, it's just a funny, random trend.
01:57So have we reached peak 6-7?
01:59A Google Trends chart suggests probably not,
02:02but teachers have definitely had enough.
02:06Come on, let's go outside.
02:07Some teachers now keep a tally of how many times their students say it.
02:11Oh, who did?
02:12Jayce!
02:13Jayce!
02:14While others take away 6 plus 7 minutes of recess time if anyone says it.
02:20My mom, who's been teaching for more than 35 years, has a different approach.
02:25While this may seem easy, results may vary depending on your tone.
02:29And ironically, adults using the trend might be the secret to ending it.
02:34Some people online have theories that when parents and teachers start saying 6-7,
02:38it instantly becomes uncool.
02:41Take financial advisor Douglas Boneparth's Halloween post on X,
02:45he and his wife dressed as 6 and 7.
02:48He said their kids hated it, by the way.
02:50Like every viral phrase before it, from skibbity to riz,
02:546-7 will eventually fade when the next random combo of words or numbers takes over.
02:59And if you thought 6-7 was over, not so fast.
03:03The kids tell me there's already another number.
03:06But I can't tell you what it is because no one likes a snitch.
03:12My job is to inform you on what's going on.
