00:00Russia is one step closer to being designated as a state sponsor of terrorism.
00:05The Senate Foreign Relations Committee advanced legislation Wednesday morning
00:08that seeks to punish Russia for kidnapping an estimated 20,000 Ukrainian children during the war.
00:14It is a war crime.
00:17Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in 2022,
00:21President Vladimir Putin's forces have kidnapped, deported, or displaced approximately 20,000 children,
00:27ranging in age from just a few months to 17.
00:30They were sent to Russia or its occupied territories.
00:33The goal?
00:34Strip the children of their Ukrainian identity and make them believe they're Russian.
00:39Russia even hopes one day some of them will serve in its military.
00:42Vladimir Putin is purposefully doing it,
00:45and the outrage ought to move us to pass this bill literally within coming weeks.
00:52Members of Congress are happy President Trump canceled his planned summit with Vladimir Putin.
00:57They hope the president will be more willing to punish Russia economically.
01:00I hope that the time has come now to move forward on the Russia sanctions bill,
01:06to use an economic sledgehammer,
01:08and stop India, China, Brazil from fueling Putin's war machine.
01:15If Russia is designated as a state sponsor of terrorism,
01:19it would join North Korea, Syria, Cuba, and Iran.
01:22Sanctions would be imposed automatically,
01:24and anyone who does business with the country would also face punishment.
