Hurricane Melissa has made landfall in the municipality of Guamá in Santiago de Cuba as a Category 3 hurricane. The system is expected to continue moving northeast, gradually increasing its speed as it approaches the provinces of Granma and Santiago de Cuba. Despite expected fluctuations in intensity, Melissa will remain a major hurricane as it passes over the island. Eastern Cuba is already experiencing the hurricane's effects with heavy rainfall, recording cumulative totals of 61 millimeters at the Punta de Maisi weather station and 52 millimeters in Pilon. Rainfall is expected to intensify with accumulations between 200-450 millimeters over the next 24 hours, particularly in mountainous regions.
