00:00uh there's the pga tour has definitely has very very strict rules regulations it's something
00:05that's you got to sign you know before every single year uh you know what's what you're signed
00:10up for uh when it comes to just the gambling uh regulations that they have but you also think
00:16about the finances that the pga tour have the networks have the even just players having
00:20individual deals with these gambling companies too um that that's constantly something that's
00:26that's being put in front of of consumers you know hey if they get you know if you hit the green here
00:32these are the odds you know so it's constantly being floated on broadcast it's being uh talked
00:36about too uh even with with the pga tour they have their own individual deals with uh different
00:42gambling outlets too so it's it's one of those tough situations because there's so much money
00:47in gambling uh that there's the gambling companies are spending with these different leagues
00:52that it puts the players in really tough spots because really they are the ones that that get
00:56the negative effects from consumers gambling on me versus charlie and we're the ones that have to deal
01:03with the negative backlash of playing bad that day it's like hey you suck it's like i put you in my
01:07lineup or i had you head to head so really the players get the backlash of of of it all and i guess
01:13it's it's it's important because the the more eyeballs i watch the sport the better and unfortunately
01:19sometimes that means gambling and and that's what keeps people's attention uh as as right or wrong
01:25as that is it's it's true we've had uh gambling companies sponsor our show at various intervals
01:31and and so we're not here like you know as as some sort of moral police saying you know what's right
01:35or what's wrong i just think more so in thinking about the specific topic and this piece of news
01:40the first place my brain goes to is should i be worried about this on on a golf level and i think
01:45you've done a good job of like segmenting is of of what what potential places of worry could we have
01:51and the first one which you stated i think is the most important which is these guys are in their
01:55their contractors they are not on a guaranteed salary at least in in uh most leagues but i mean the ones
02:02that are playing every week in week out to keep their tour cards um even if a guy was in deep with with
02:08some you know bookie it doesn't really behoove that bookie to have that guy play bad and play his way off
02:14the tour if he's trying to use them as some sort of gambling pawn there's like there's no math here
02:17that that results in have player play bad intentionally and in my opinion at least from
02:22as far as what i can see and so and these guys are on a week in week out basis you know needing to
02:27continue to play good to make the money they need to earn if they're playing poorly that really
02:32doesn't help them in any way shape or form um i also think too that where we started this topic is
02:38there is a a sort of ethos of the game of golf of even if it's a friendly dollar wager
02:43like gambling's been a part of golf since the game was invented right and it's always about
02:48betting on yourself right i mean every about every time i go out and play hope valley with the buddies
02:53like we have a game going and it's never like okay let me like let me hedge this here so i can bet
02:57against myself so i can throw this thing it's like it's always hey put put money on yourself to play
03:02good and it feels like that is the ethos at a at a tour pro level and these these practice rounds
03:08things like that so i think that it's hard to see guys changing a mindset or mentality away from that
03:13given that their whole life it's been that sort of the way they're playing the game
03:16the third thing is the fan thing which i do have serious worries about i mean i i'm actually kind
03:22of surprised and going back and doing this research that since 2023 there hasn't really been any sort of
03:27material issue i did see a couple things at 2024 in the u.s open someone told bryce and they had him
03:33to like shoot us to post a score under 70 and a half they had like victor hovland to make a cut they
03:39like yelled it to him across the ropes something like that but nothing that was as egregious as
03:43what we saw at the 2023 b&w championship uh but as gambling does become more and more ingrained
03:50in the sport um in every sport really do you do you have concerns either that have been voiced by
03:56tour pros you talk to or other people in the space that that hey this hasn't been a thing yet but this
04:02might start to be a thing pretty soon
04:03you
