00:00Senegal's National Assembly has rejected the proposal to charge former President Makisal with high treason,
00:07dealing a major setback to a legal effort aimed at holding him accountable for alleged financial wrongdoing.
00:13The motion, introduced by MP Gay Mario Sangna of the ruling PASTEF party,
00:19accused Sal of mismanaging state finances, including hiding a debt estimated at $7 billion
00:26and contracting loans outside legal budget procedures.
00:30However, Parliament declared the motion inadmissible due to procedural flaw,
00:36preventing the move from advancing to the old coup de justice,
00:40the constitutional body that can try former heads of state.
00:43The decision offers Sal a temporary reprieve from prosecution,
00:48despite mounting pressure over financial governance during his presidency.
