00:01Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso were united in their outrage against the European Parliament on
00:08Thursday. The three alliance of Sahel states condemned a resolution voted by the parliament
00:14last week to demand the liberation of Niger's president, Mohamed Bersoum. Bersoum was president
00:21from 2021 to 2023, when he was ousted in a military coup. He was detained and has been
00:29under arrest ever since in Myanmar, Niger's capital. The new regime, a military junta led
00:36by General Abdurrahman Tiani, has so far refused to release him. The European Parliament's resolution
00:43asks for Bersoum's immediate and unconditional release, a demand that the Sahel states qualified
00:51as serious, deliberate and coordinated meddling in the business of a sovereign state.
