00:00Hegseth orders unprecedented meeting.
00:03Hundreds of the U.S. military's highest-ranking officers have been ordered to report to a
00:07single location next week, and no one knows why.
00:11The directive, issued by U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, is calling generals and
00:16admirals from around the world to meet at a Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia.
00:21No agenda has been shared, and the timing couldn't be more uncertain.
00:26With a potential government shutdown just days away and growing instability inside the
00:30Pentagon itself, the order was sent out earlier this week and confirmed by Pentagon spokesman
00:35Sean Parnell.
00:37He told reporters that Secretary Hegseth will be addressing his senior military leaders
00:41early next week, but declined to share any further information.
00:45With each commander expected to travel with support staff, the number of people flying
00:49in could reach more than 1,000.
00:52What's raising eyebrows is not just the size of the gathering, but the secrecy around
00:55it.
00:56You don't bring every commander to one place without a reason, and not tell them why.
01:01Normally, the Defense Department handles meetings like this using secure video conference systems,
01:06but not this time.
01:07His recent moves include renaming the Defense Department, ordering a 20% reduction in generals
01:12and admirals, and firing several high-ranking officers, including some without explanation.
01:18Some fear this surprise meeting could bring more firings.
01:21On Capitol Hill, lawmakers from both parties say they were not briefed in advance and are
01:25waiting for answers.
01:27Officials say some commanders are worried about how they'll return to their posts if the government
01:31shuts down while they're away.
01:33Others are questioning how this could impact troop morale, especially when leaders are pulled
01:38from the field with no explanation.
01:41Inside the Pentagon, the mood has shifted.
01:43Others are quietly asking, what's really going on here?
01:46The White House hasn't said whether President Trump will attend the gathering.
01:50When asked, he told reporters, I'll go if they want me.
01:54Vice President J.D. Vance said, I think it's odd that you guys have made it into such a big
01:59story.
02:00But inside the military, it already is.
02:03And now, with just days to go, everyone's asking the same thing.
02:07Why are the generals being summoned?
02:09And what will happen when they arrive?
