00:00Two players will get World Series rings no matter who wins.
00:04Two players, five teams, and a combined 78 plate appearances and innings pitched.
00:08Both will get World Series rings, no matter who wins.
00:12Jose Ureña and Buddy Kennedy won't need confetti or a dogpile, just mail them the jewelry.
00:18And yet both are set to receive rings.
00:20No confetti needed, no dogpile on the mound.
00:23Let's start with Jose Ureña, the pitcher equivalent of a backpack this season.
00:28Carried from city to city, team to team, and locker to locker,
00:31he tied an MLB record with appearances for five different clubs in a single season.
00:36He started the year with the Mets, barely, stopped in Blue Jays blue, 12.1 innings pitched,
00:42logged three innings with the Dodgers, and finally landed with the Angels.
00:46Total, 55.0 innings pitched, 19 appearances,
00:50and a suitcase that probably never made it out of the airport terminal.
00:54But here's the kicker.
00:55Despite his drive-by stints in Toronto and L.A.,
00:58he'll still get a championship ring from whichever club wins it all.
01:02Because he was there, he was on the roster,
01:05and he threw the ball in an actual Major League game.
01:08Then there's Buddy Kennedy,
01:10an infielder journeyman from the same high school as Mike Trout.
01:13His big league time this season was 13 games,
01:16two in Toronto, one for five,
01:18and seven in Dodger Blue, one for 17.
01:21Yet, because he stepped into the box, took those swings, and suited up,
01:26he's ring-eligible for either club.
01:28It's one of those weird, beautiful baseball things.
01:31The idea that anyone who contributed at all to the journey,
01:34no matter how briefly, gets to share in the final reward.
01:38You don't see that in every sport.
01:40You don't get that level of grace.
01:41In baseball, the 25th man matters.
01:44The September call-up counts.
01:46The guy who threw three mop-up innings in June gets a piece of history.
01:50So, while Ureña and Kennedy might be home watching the series like the rest of us,
01:55popcorn in hand, one thing's guaranteed,
01:57someone's sending them a ring.
