00:00I'm not gonna let you go
00:28Hi, guys. My name is Maria Kandus. I love to travel so much.
00:44Maria Hondras is a well-known Ukrainian traveler and hitchhiker.
00:48Over the past five years, she has visited 50 countries and 300 towns.
00:58And in 2015, she even hitchhiked around the world.
01:04During her journey, she flagged down more than a thousand cars, two ferries, a yacht, and even an airplane.
01:14Today, Maria has decided to pack her rucksack once again and embark on an unforgettable journey across Southeast Asia to explore the region's authentic cultural traditions, visit exotic places, and meet local people.
01:32Something no guidebook or conventional tour can ever provide.
01:41So stay with us. We're going beyond.
01:45In today's show, we'll visit the kingdom of Thailand and, most importantly, the city of Bangkok.
02:09We will find out all about the authentic Thai massage, meet one of the most accomplished marathon runners in the world, see one of Bangkok's landmark sites, the Grand Palace.
02:34And we'll learn some of the secrets of the most exotic cuisine in the world.
02:43I've never seen a real scorpion in my life, but I will cry.
02:46Oh, my God!
02:53Stay tuned for more.
03:04Every trip begins at the airport.
03:17So it's quite natural that we start our journey at Subarnapuni, Southeast Asia's largest airport.
03:23It opened in 2006, but its construction is still underway.
03:35Spawning rumors about the site being haunted.
03:38This scares the hell out of superstitious workers who, as a result, refused to do their job properly.
03:43A few years back, a religious ceremony was held here to ward off the ghosts.
03:53Ninety-nine Buddhist monks arrived at the site to sing mantras.
03:58Construction of the airport is due to be finished by 2019.
04:02Unless, of course, the apparitions decide to come back.
04:06The fastest way to get your first impression of this huge city is to take a suburban train.
04:26Fares are inexpensive. Plus, you avoid traffic jams, and you get your first glimpse of the city through a train window.
04:47Bangkok is a typical Asian city.
04:56Noisy.
04:58Dirty.
05:01Overpopulated.
05:03And blessed with sultry weather.
05:08It's so big that it's almost impossible to see its limits, even from a high viewpoint.
05:17The first thing you notice is dozens and even hundreds of skyscrapers.
05:23Built quite erratically here and there.
05:26They even pop up in inner suburbs.
05:30That's why, from the bird's eye view, the city looks like a dart board.
05:36Studded with skyscrapers, almost resembling darts.
05:39Skyscrapers pop up in Bangkok like mushrooms after a rain.
05:47Under their weight, the ground continues to subside by several centimeters each year.
05:53That said, parts of Thailand's capital may go underwater in the very near future.
06:02Until it happens, the city will continue to attract thousands of tourists.
06:07Every one of them can expect a kaleidoscope of sensations.
06:20Imagine a mixture that smells of petrol, dirt, dust, street food, and fresh vegetables.
06:45You'll be exposed to endless traffic noise.
07:02Street musicians noodling on their instruments.
07:05And ceaseless chatter of all the locals.
07:16Hundreds of hurrying passerbys.
07:21Dull streets and heaps of bright signs will greet your eye when you find yourself in the middle of the city.
07:27At first sight, it seems that chaos is everywhere.
07:38Just think of a tangled wires or linen left to dry on top of flower beds.
07:45But after a while, you begin to see this city differently.
07:53And appreciate it for its peace, cleanliness, and tranquility.
08:07Bangkok is a city of parks.
08:09The largest of them, Lumpini Park, is located right in the heart of the city.
08:16It's a must-see attraction for anyone who wants a quiet retreat from the city's hustle and bustle and the heat.
08:27Or just wishes to pet the iguanas.
08:32I'm scared.
08:33And feed the pigeons.
08:34Bangkok is a huge megapolis.
08:40Here is more than 20 million people.
08:43But even in such a big, busy city, you can find green places with a lake for chill, relax, feed some animals.
08:51They look pretty hungry.
09:12That's when you begin to realize why Bangkok is rightfully called the city of many faces.
09:18Where the modern and innovative happily coexist with traditional ways of life.
09:30And the grime and noise go side by side with clean and tranquil places.
09:34The large part of the city of the city of the city'sилли를.
09:40The world is not one to be satisfied with the city of the city.
09:42It's not one to be satisfied with each other than two people who are not satisfied with the city.
09:44We don't need to get the energy of the city.
09:45What do you think, Hook?
09:47I'm trying not to pay one.
09:49The world's most contemporary world, you know.
09:51We don't need to.
09:53We don't need to.
09:55He's more than one to be satisfied with each other than any other.
09:57We don't need to.
09:59We don't need to.
10:00We don't need to.
