00:00Kucheng is home to more than a hundred hotels and bungalows.
00:17What's even more intriguing is that they don't go high, but they go wide.
00:22Because of national park status, Kucheng's authorities will never allow the construction of skyscrapers.
00:28It's against the law.
00:31The roofs of newer houses must be leveled with the tops of palm trees.
00:35Builders try to abide by this law.
00:46The hotel I'll be staying at is one of the oldest and most authentic on the island.
00:52Its area is abounding with luscious tropical greenery.
00:58Of course, then, there are also the spirit houses.
01:04Each one is a shrine to the protective spirit of that particular place.
01:10Such shrines are found across many Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand.
01:15Both religious and superstitious, Thais believe that each lodging is protected by its own spirit.
01:23In order to summon good luck and fortune, they must earn the love of those invisible owners.
01:29What better way to do it than by building them their own houses?
01:32To appease the spirits, flowers, food, sweets, and drinks are brought in daily.
01:39Each tourist gets their own house, too, of course.
01:54The interior design is quite plain, yet you get everything you need.
01:58A bed, air conditioning, a shower stall, and, oh, a cockroach who may well be the protective spirit of the building.
02:10To come to Koh Chang in order to stay inside a stuffy room all day would sure be a crime.
02:16We set out with our new friends to explore the exotic surroundings together.
02:24Here's Julia. She is a professional photographer.
02:28With each new journey, she attempts to track down some of the most unusual locations for her photo shoots.
02:35There's one in Koh Chang as well.
02:38The ghost ship site.
02:42In the past, this seven-deck ocean liner once happily crossed the waters of the many oceans.
02:47Later, it was transformed into a hotel offering visitors' cabins for rooms and nearby boats for houses.
02:54However, a lot of money was needed to maintain the premises, and with a receding number of tourists, it was eventually closed.
03:07What's left of this once luxurious hotel is simply a lonely, rusting ship.
03:13The locals call it a ghost ship for a lot of reasons.
03:16This place is indeed quite mystical and haunted, if you will, but picturesque at the same time.
03:27It is no wonder why Julia chose it for her new photo shoot.
03:31Isn't it wonderful that Maria agreed to pose as a model?
03:33With the mountainous scenery, the green foliage, and white sand beach, it really is the best setting for a photo shoot in paradise.
03:50Thanks to this lucky encounter, we've just visited one of the most extraordinary places on the island.
04:10Even though Kucheng is an ideal place for those who want some lazy beach days, those who wish to stretch their legs can look forward to an array of active leisure activities.
04:23So, how about visiting a leisure park?
04:31Hi, Sabadika. Is it here you have an adventurous park?
04:35Yeah.
04:36Can I try?
04:37Yeah.
04:38As we know, extreme activities usually involve some risks.
04:41So, before visitors go up high, they are required to fill in a form and glance through the safety regulations.
04:48First, I should read the rules and sign up that my safety is on my own.
04:54And this is a little tricky, but okay.
04:59Next come the instructions, which are required.
05:02Now that we're safe and secure, it's time to imitate Tarzan and fly among the trees.
05:11Let's see how far can I go.
05:12The joy of flying like Tarzan does not come at once though.
05:21In the beginning, it seems a bit over the top to call these high suspension bridges and paths extreme.
05:27Monkey monkey.
05:28Monkey monkey.
05:29Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
05:30This park in the middle of the jungle, it's very cool to do sports in the nature. I like it.
05:48I feel like a bird between jungles.
06:05Better stay alert though, as the further you go, the scarier the path becomes.
06:16You know, some places, not that easy actually, as I was expected. It's very fun. Very fun.
06:24Especially if you know that your safety is now in your own hands.
06:31Look, there is a small bicycle.
06:41I like to ride bicycle, but I don't really know how it works.
06:45Oh my God.
06:46It looks like it's old.
06:49I'm scared.
06:50I don't know.
06:51I can't.
06:54I'm scared.
07:07Finally, this is the end.
07:12Thank you very much.
07:13You have so much hot food to help.
07:15Yeah.
07:17Once this ride is over, it's time to take a break and treat ourselves to some tasty snacks.
07:29Then we'll go deeper into the island to meet its real inhabitants.
