00:01President Alassane Watara of Ivory Coast has secured a fourth term, winning a landslide victory with 89.7% of the vote, according to provisional results released on Monday.
00:15The opposition was severely weakened after two of its most prominent leaders, former President Laurent Babot and former Credit Suisse CEO Tijan Tiam, were bad from running.
00:30Of the five candidates who did compete, former Minister Jean-Louis Bilon came a distant second with just 3%. Former First Lady Simone Babot won 2.4%, with the remaining votes shared by Henriette Lago and Ahu Don Melo.
00:50The election was marked by a low turnout of around 50% and the exclusion of several major opposition figures, solidifying Watara's grip on power amid concerns of democratic backsliding in the West African country.
