Mattel unveils Barbie Signature Doll honoring Marilyn Monroe's 100th birthday
Marilyn Monroe's 100th birthday is being honored with a Barbie Signature doll. Mattel Inc. is releasing a figure dressed in the iconic look from her performance of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." This includes a strapless hot pink dress with an oversized bow, trimmed in black, and diamond accessories. This is the seventh Barbie Mattel has created since 1997 to celebrate Monroe's enduring legacy.
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, Monroe rose from a childhood in foster homes to become one of the most recognizable figures in the world. She is best known for the 1950s films "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," "How to Marry a Millionaire," and "The Seven Year Itch." Monroe's life was marked by high-profile marriages, including to baseball legend Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller. She died on August 5, 1962, at age 36.
The doll will be available for purchase starting August 18 for $81 (USD).
