Transcript
00:00Is it surprising how quick the turnaround has been?
00:03I think in some ways it is from the standpoint that, my goodness,
00:07the mountain you climb as a new coach and, you know,
00:10getting your staff in order and trying to get the culture right.
00:13I mean, all those things that you have to do at a high level
00:16and win in the National Football League, I mean, it's really difficult.
00:20Now, on the flip side, knowing a guy like Mike Vrabel
00:23and knowing, you know, the way he approaches the game.
00:25And also, as I've said for many years,
00:27I think that the people who can take the toughness
00:30and make it applicable week to week are going to really do well
00:35in the National Football League.
00:37Toughness, they tried to outlaw it.
00:39But if you can keep your players with that mindset, which Vrabel, you know,
00:43Vrabel was a guy at Ohio State who was getting in bar fights every weekend, right?
00:49That's the guy you want at the helm of a big-time organization.
00:56And that's what we have.
00:57We have a street fighter, and I think that it pays big dividends.
01:01Matt, can I get your favorite Vrabel story from when you played with him?
01:05Is there anyone that stands out that just sort of epitomizes
01:08who the Vrabel that you knew was?
01:11Yeah, I mean, I think there's millions of them.
01:13I think that I laugh because most of them are hilarious.
01:17As anyone that you guys know, Vrabel,
01:19and you guys know, you know, the way he brings it.
01:22He has a flair that's so unique.
01:24And I always say you never get in a war of words with Mike Vrabel
01:27because you're going to lose every time.
01:29He can remember every little detail to embarrass you at any point in your life.
01:34So for me, it was practice.
01:37And at practice, the way he would get into Tommy's head
01:40and the way he would bust his balls brought tears to the entire offense at times.
01:46And by the way, it was a little aggravating, too,
01:49because the more he pissed off Tommy, the more we had to practice.
01:53And so it was a double-edged sword.
01:56What do you think of the job Will Campbell's doing at your old spot?
02:02You know, listen, I've been really impressed with him.
02:04I mean, I like the way he goes about his job.
02:07I mean, he's an old soul.
02:10You know, he shows up every day.
02:11He wants to do the right thing every time.
02:14He takes it personal.
02:16You know, he's got a little bit of that nastiness in him, right?
02:19And he's a force.
02:20And, you know, I think Myles Garrett, you know,
02:22had some good praise for him after the game.
02:24Although, you know, Myles, I'm sure,
02:26was feeling pretty good at the end of that one.
02:28But, you know, I think that was a really good thing that happened out there, right?
02:32I mean, he went up against the best player in the league.
02:35And he had some, you know, he had some faults, which he acknowledged, right?
02:40But that's got to pay big dividends as well down the road.
02:44He's going to learn a lot from that game that's going to set him up for the future.
02:47Did it give you Dwight Freeney flashbacks at all?
02:52Unless I wake up at least once a week in the hot sweats and just, you know,
02:56fear of seeing 93 go by me.
