Transcript
00:00Michael, it's Ted. Congratulations on a hell of a year, buddy. I'm so proud of you. Not surprising.
00:04Eddie J. What's up, bro? It's no surprise. I'm good, man. I'm doing really good. But
00:10heck of a year. So fun to watch what you've been able to do with this team this year. And I'm just
00:15curious, Mike, if you've ever thought about this team in the sense that you harken back to the
00:21teams that we played on, me, you, and Wiggy in the early 2000s. Are there any similarities or
00:25characteristics from those teams that you see maybe in your team this year? Every year is so
00:30much different. I try not to do that. I try to focus on what the team needs each and every week.
00:36But certainly we've taken on an underdog role. Not that we ever set out for that. But, you know,
00:44we played really well stretches and we've had a lot of different instances of situations that
00:51we're going to need. If anything comes up in this last game, I'm confident that we'll have
00:56covered it in a game or addressed it in practice. But we've been through a lot and we're excited about
01:01it. Between you, Ted, and Wiggy, there has to be a good Vrabel Super Bowl story in here somewhere.
01:07I mean, somebody's got Wiggy. Other than the touchdowns and the sacks.
01:14You know, Mike, I can tell you, Mike, I thought one of the more unique week of practices we've ever
01:19had was that the 2001 week where we didn't have two weeks to prepare. And I've never seen a more
01:25confident team, Mike. I mean, it just, it was incredible. And Mike usually, you know, when it
01:29comes to leading the charge and, you know, confidence, it's usually Mike Vrabel at the
01:33front of the line. But I just remember that week of preparation, just not having two weeks, but just
01:38being as confident as we were and loose as we were. Mike was spearheading that a little bit, but
01:43that was, I just remember the energy that he brought, especially in that 2001 week of preparation.
01:48Full pads, nine on seven. Yeah, pretty much. Full pads, nine on seven on Wednesday. I remember
01:53I stayed at, Jen was in Columbus having Carter. I think she had just had Carter at the end
02:00of November, emergency C-section. I completely missed it. And we beat Pittsburgh. We roll
02:06back. Bill's like, get your s*** packed and we are leaving tomorrow. I got a bag. I went
02:12to Bledsoe's and I wasn't a big wine drinker until I met Drew. And then it was like, okay,
02:18you're sleeping on the couch and we're going to go get on the bus. And we went to the Super
02:22Bowl. That's how quickly everything happened. I do got something just popped in my head
02:26though, Mike. All right. So we're going to cut it there. So there's a reflection coming
02:30up to radio row week later today as well. But a little story about drinking wine with
02:34Bledsoe sleeping on his couch. It is amazing. They had one week to get everything together.
02:39They still partied after that game. And the variable, by the way, missed the birth of his
02:42son in November, Courtney. Like birth talk that I've heard this season from coaching staff
02:48members that like missed births or took paternity leaves, whatever is insane.
02:52And not even just talking about Steph Diggs. No, not at all. Now, so I understand that
02:57they're taking a walk down radio row. His memory lane at radio row. Yeah, that's what
03:02I meant. But when you're looking forward, like, do they ask him about Drake May's shoulder?
03:06They do get to Drake May's shoulder. And in particular, I thought was interesting. Mike
03:10gives a pretty specific example of how they're prepping for Seattle this year's Seattle team
03:16this week. So that's all coming up three. And I was told I shouldn't say this, but in
03:20the interview, you hear why Malcolm Butler was benched. Finally, we'll get to the bottom
03:24of that. Yeah. So don't miss it. Malcolm Butler is going to be a radio row star this week,
03:28right? Yes. He was at the Southie Dunks. What is going on? He was? Yes.
03:31Were you here? We talked about it. I missed that. Oh, yeah. I asked Curtis if he went to the
03:36shoot because Portnoy was there, Malcolm Butler. They seem to be shooting some type
03:40of commercial for Dunkin Donuts. Okay. Well, more for Abel today. Matt Light, who was at
03:45the rally, is checking in at five o'clock today. Tommy Curran on Radio Row as well. Our
03:48big game coverage presented by your New England Chevy dealers in the Chevy Silverado, the official
03:52truck of Drake Bay. Shaw's and Star Market, proud to be local since 1860. Ketchis Law Group,
03:57the official law firm of the New England Patriots and John Dark Credit Union, tackling financial
04:01literacy with New England star Marcus Jones, donating $50,000 to support financial wellness.
04:06Details jdcu.org. Bigger edge in the return game. Marcus or the speedster from Seattle who
04:14they traded for? Rashid Shaheed. Rashid Shaheed, yeah. I go Marcus. Marcus over Shaheed? Yeah.
04:20Van Pelt just found out he can return kicks. Well, Marcus hasn't played offense this year,
04:24though. Shaheed is, he was a factor offensively for Seattle in the NFCC. I would like to toss
04:29out an off-the-wall MVP bet. Super Bowl MVP bet. Marcus Jones. Really? Punt return or kick
04:37return touchdown, plus maybe a pick if it's a low-scoring affair. He might cover Shaheed
04:42in the slot, right? Yeah, he could. Or Cooper Cup. Or Cooper Cup, who was an MVP when the Rams
04:48won, wasn't he? Correct. Yep. Let's go to the phones and talk to Eric in Rhode Island. Good morning,
04:52Derek. Hey, what's up, guys? How you doing? Congratulations, Courtney, by the way. Thank
04:58you. Yeah, absolutely. So, uh, Shaheed, I'm kind of on the, uh, Joe Montana thing where I
05:08don't, in today's game, I don't think he'd be that good. Would you take Sam Darnold over
05:13him? No, let's not get ridiculous. All right, so who, Drake May? Well, yeah, I mean, I'm the
05:21number one Drake May guy. Of course, I'd take Drake May over everybody not named Tom Brady.
05:24What is, what is the Shime all-time? Eric, are you at Whalers? What is the Shime all-time top
05:29five quarterback list? Oh, let's hear it. All-time quarterbacks? Emergency top five, the Shime
05:33list. Uh, so number one, Tom Brady. Can't even have Joe Milton. I had Milton there. By the way,
05:37by the way, Joe Milton's special guest on Radio Row tomorrow with Greg Teddenwege. That was the
05:41first guy I booked. That says a lot about you. Hey, he was available, I booked him. Uh, so number one,
05:49Tom Brady, number two, Peyton Manning. Uh, number two, Peyton Manning? You got Peyton
05:54ahead of Mahomes? Yeah, yeah. Mahomes is number three. I would probably go Aaron Rodgers,
06:01number four. What? Elway, number five. Oh my God. Wait, wait, can you do that again? Brady,
06:07who was two? I think he's being, this has to be a bit. You're making this up.
06:11Mahomes, Rodgers, and Elway. Aaron Rodgers went to one Super Bowl. Yeah, he was still one of the,
06:18he's arguably the most talented quarterback we've ever seen. Who cares about wasted talent?
06:22Okay. I do. I'm talking about, I'm talking about, you asked me who the best quarterbacks,
06:26right? You didn't ask me who the best wieners were. Well, most accomplished would be the best,
06:28right? No, those are two different things. All right. Where do you put Cam Newton on that list?
06:33Nah, he's way down there. Texters were asking me to let Shime talk more earlier, and I regret
06:37listening to those texters, because that is a, that is a flawed list if I ever heard one. My God,
06:41it's shocking. But Mahomes literally has everything over, over Manning. I think what Peyton Manning did
06:45revolutionize the passing game of football. Where's Elway? I had five. I had Elway at five.
06:51Oh, you had him at five. Okay. Yeah. All right. Elway went to five Super Bowls. Right. Yep.
06:56And he's behind Aaron Rodgers. He didn't lose three of them. If you were born before Shime,
07:00then you're just disregarded. You're down the list, just on default. What in the world?
07:04What?
