00:07days to review thursday night and and think about it and uh i'm i'm wondering if you look at when
00:13this team dealing with injuries i know that's not an excuse but uh when you have that many injuries
00:19is it almost like everything has to be perfect the every aspect of the game well i mean i don't
00:25think it has to be perfect but it better be precise and whether you have people that are injured or
00:29not i think you better be precise in this league uh each and every week if you want to give
00:34yourself
00:34a chance to win i think you just see that throughout the league so uh that's what we'll try to
00:39get back
00:40to work and try to strive for mike when you look at this game there were some plays that you
00:44guys gave
00:44up in the passing game whether it was like some deep digs or a tunnel screen that looked like you
00:49went for a touchdown what was no it did go for it didn't look like what what what what was
00:55some of
00:55the issues maybe with tackling and just some of the coverage that will lead into some of these plays
01:00well i mean i think that that was just uh i think they did a good job on the screen
01:05i don't think you
01:06know give them credit we didn't do a very good job we didn't you know nobody got off any blocks

01:11disrupt anything that they were doing on that particular play uh and then some other times in
01:15the passing game again i think you try to pressure um there's a balance there you try to pressure and
01:21you know affect the quarterback and other times uh you know and when you do you leave some voids in
01:29the zone and you know they we didn't get home in time and you know that's the balance that you
01:34that you try to wage here's what's how many guys you need to pressure affect the quarterback and
01:41everything else uh drake on that on that run toward the end zone there took a hit that looked
01:47pretty helmet to helmet um is and we love it love it about him uh is that the kind of
01:53thing where you
01:54got to go back every once in a while and remind him that he he needs to slide every once
01:58in a while
01:58i'm again i remind him a lot of different things sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't sometimes
02:05no i'm not going to say anything just tell him go play quarterback and
02:09make good decisions and
02:12you know lead our offense drake was your leading rusher on thursday 26 yards and your three running
02:17backs had 44 combined is that a game plan thing or is that something you need to fix
02:22uh no we'd like we didn't go into the game saying we only want to run for 80 yards or
02:27whatever it
02:27was that wasn't part of the game player the first drive you guys had third and five josh mcdaniels
02:34told our midday show on friday that the pray play before on third down you knew you were going for
02:41it on fourth down which was the one yard run to remandre then fourth down you the clock was going
02:48down to zero it felt a bit rushed any thought about a timeout right before that fourth down play
02:54and what goes into the decision knowing you're going to go for it on four downs in that spot
03:00those are just things i try to let josh know um you know and they got eight guys up in
03:06the line
03:07of scrimmage where you know i sat out there and watch this practice uh some of those runs to try
03:12to give ourselves a chance you know early in the game to see what the pressure looks may be and
03:20we didn't block it very well we would watch the the jets block it twice against us and run for

03:27yards the week before so thought maybe we should try to you know have something like that clearly
03:32didn't execute it well enough uh i'd try to gauge you know where we're at as far as the the
03:38timeouts
03:38and i think it's i think i have a decent feel for where we're gonna snap off and i don't
03:45think we're
03:45rush we're just a little late getting everything aligned up and i don't think that was a factor
03:52in the play but i try to decide is it zero and the ball's coming or you know do i
03:57have time out there
03:58to save us some yards you look frustrated or hot under the collar after the gay back is roughing the
04:06passer call i i however i feel you know i mean was that a question or you you said i

04:24uh at gabe at the call you looked you look maybe you're maybe that's just your i look miserable when

04:36some like uh when you watch this what were you mad about on that play you're mad about the refs

04:41i'm always mad at the refs i i don't think i wasn't mad at the refs that's that wasn't that's

04:51faster quarterback ever penalty i've ever seen in my game it was like five steps i'm just trying to get
04:56you to talk about it i know you have that 250 000 thing hanging over your head thank god this

05:03nothing so that can i could contribute to that how does that do you have to coach differently
05:06you have to talk to the officials differently now everything's a great call a great call
05:11smile through you guys got a hard job i go man i thought you were going to miss that one

05:20a penalty nowadays and what ain't mike there there was they they did a really time i go to cuss

05:40on on third downs especially you know walking guys up trying to confuse uh obviously your offense
05:47when there were some plays when you look at that whether they're sort of i was coming from this
05:53perspective of like should there have been hot routes built in or did they just do a good job of
05:57well
05:57there there's scans that are built in and again we have sight adjusts and we don't call them hot
06:02we call them sight adjust okay times have changed a little bit but again i get what you're saying it's
06:07just that you know sometimes when you get guys up there it's like the line's going one way the backs
06:12are gonna have to go from here to here and you know there's some moving parts and they had a
06:16couple
06:16free runners so from scan to the left all the way back to the right at times when you see
06:21your guys are
06:22not coming yeah if you're going to keep those guys in or the other adage is you're just going to
06:26get
06:26everybody out and then try to get the ball out of your hand so there's those are built in uh
06:31based
06:31on the protection and sometimes you know there were free runners that a few times that we can't have
06:37and then you know there were some times where we we protected them and blocked them after the jets
06:43win you had said that you were um upset because you felt like the guys didn't build upon the week
06:47before despite the loss in chicago did you feel like the guys had built upon the jets win
06:53going into this week or or still no i mean i just think it's too inconsistent i think that
06:58you can see there's glimpses of of good football and you know when we throw a turnover we throw a
07:06pick in the red zone on first down we don't create any turnovers defensively you know those are those
07:11are hard to do when you go on the road against a good team to to not turn the ball
07:15over defensively
07:16and think that you could win my mike wiggie said on friday that he thought the throw by drake may
07:22was not a bad decision it was just a bad throw would you agree with that assessment for for the
07:27first time in 25 years yeah i agree with wiggie since i met him yeah no i think that you
07:33have a
07:33tight end down there and again tight ends are yeah most tight ends are good targets down there but
07:39you know that ball just has to be you know high and it's either the tight end is going to
07:45go up and
07:45get it or or it's an incompletion and you know drake knows these things every quarterback knows these
07:51things so that's why you see tight ends targeted down there in the red zone is where they could
07:57potentially put the ball and either they make a great play or or it's an incompletion it comes back
08:02to eli red and on the touchdown pretty much the same play and makes that that throw down there like
08:07where he needed to to go um you look at this dolphins game coming up always difficult to play down
08:13in
08:14miami divisional opponent what's kind of been the message to these guys i know it's a tough loss
08:19you know you got to move on to kind of bury the tape and move on well i think we
08:23can try to use
08:24today uh there hasn't been a message you know i mean the message is the last time i talked to
08:29him on
08:29on thursday night friday morning and um you know try to use this as a little bit of a self
08:36scout and see
08:37where we're at things that we can improve on today you know be able to have a bunch of individual
08:42and the special teams and go against each other offensive and defensively and then we'll focus on
08:47the the dolphins on wednesday but i think today has just got to be about you know where we're at
08:53after
08:53seven games and some things that we can reasonably improve on um you know and some things we're just
09:00going to have to be okay that we're we're probably not going to be able to improve on them when
09:05it
09:05comes to miami uh coming off their first win is this a better team than their record shows um
09:11certainly you know i think that uh they play extremely hard you know i think i mean we've
09:16had i had malik as a young player we drafted malik in tennessee uh he can beat you scrambling he

09:23beat you throwing they ran the football really well they their backs run hard defense is is young
09:29and fast and then again i think they're going to continue to improve which you know i've known jeff
09:34for a long time and he's an excellent football coach the guy that you had in tennessee uh aj brown
09:40who is back off the injury are you concerned at all about his ability to get back to what you
09:46expect
09:46him to be this season off that high ankle high ankle sprain no i don't have any concern no have

09:52thought he's looked how what have you made of his play since he returned oh i i thought that he
09:58dropped
09:58a few passes and then you know the other night there was a contested catch that you know i thought
10:03he'd i've seen him make those plays in the past i've seen those plays get uh called for dpi and
10:09i've
10:09seen those plays be good plays by the defense down the field so you know i don't think anybody has
10:15to
10:15uh press here or anything else i think we just have to get back into a rhythm offensively with
10:21with the guys that we have and you know we have to continue to play we have to play better
10:26defensively and then you know our special teams took a took a seat a step back here after we
10:32had a really good performance and then you know we we weren't good enough in all three phases
10:38mike i know you said things have kind of obviously changed from the time i played and the time you
10:43played but i remember playing for coaches that broke the season up into like four quarters and
10:47you know where you guys are right now that second quarter of that kind of four game stretch
10:52where if you're able to go down to miami you come out of that quarter going three and one do

10:57kind of still is that something you do when you're like looking at the schedule you're trying to send
11:02a message to your team like all right we didn't win but if we're able to win this one here's
11:06how we
11:07kind of looked at it like the second quarter even though there is 17 games now yeah i was curious

11:11you're gonna break that up into 17 yeah well you know the extra one is kind of like overtime nowadays

11:18fifth quarter yeah uh i think a little bit i don't think i go overboard with it i think i

11:25lay things out of where we're at and you know maybe what it looks like or but certainly understand that
11:31there's it's segmented and and you have to continue to improve we talk about you know there's just a lot
11:39more thursday games there's long stretches there's short turnarounds so to just get into like the
11:45the quarter of the season you know you go from playing a game and then four days later you play
11:50and then it's like you know 10 days later and you know we have different breaks throughout the season
11:56so i don't think it's as clean as it used to be as far as you just sunday sunday sunday
12:01and then
12:02every once in a while you'd play on monday but i certainly try to maybe address it a little bit

12:07don't think i go overboard with hey this we're in the second quarter of the season

12:18uh is there a team halloween party this week uh not that i'm aware of we're hosting the kids
12:25tomorrow all the uh the coach uh coaches and players and staff uh kids but i won't be other
12:32than that i'm gonna be uh judging the patriots halloween that's about extent of uh that's it no
12:39dress up for you no no costume for you okay all right did coach athlete recruit your your your son
12:46yeah i think tyler i think tyler was there already tyler was already there he played for jeff but uh
12:52he didn't recruit tyler got it all right go get him what are you going as i i normally go

12:59you know something easy uh you know i saw i wasn't i a dinosaur uh linds and i are yes
13:07i feel like a dinosaur you've met the lovely lindsay yeah uh she made me dress as a dinosaur
13:13once i think how'd that go kind of a shot at my age i think um um totally unprovoked um

13:20was fine i mean it was a little warm in there in the uh in the costume is it the

13:25a fan that goes through no fan there was no fan the blow-up one not operational blow-up one

13:36in hallelujah we're judging it we're judging a thing on the cape saturday i always dress up but
13:40i take pride in it wiki loves hello yeah it's my favorite favorite holiday for so so it is for
13:45tyler tyler's having a big party back in nashville he i i love it i love to dress up i

13:52that stuff so no it's always set me my kids loved it when they were growing up and i've always

13:56into it so but i take pride i'm the only one who dresses that for everybody else kind of like
14:00they they throw their hands in and just you know throw a hat on and go oh you know and

14:07captain of a ship sorry you know when you you want the kids when they come to your house you

14:12give the the big candy bars so that then they leave they they don't they don't say oh man that

14:17like the miniature one they talk about it but the other thing is you gotta have a costume yes like

14:23you roll up with it it's like no no go do something yes and then come back and then we'll
14:27yeah talk about this and they gotta put some effort into it too you come back with some cheesy thing
14:32that i know you didn't put no effort into it beat it i think there's an age limit too for
14:38trick-or-treaters
14:39i got no issues with it i'm not i don't have an issue with the age limit just have the
14:43costume
14:44yeah if you can drive a car i don't think that you should be ringing doorbells on halloween
14:48but really yes but you gotta remember there was a time when it like you just went with whatever
14:54you had at your house like my age like i'm sure you guys dressed up as football players when you
15:00were playing football and like you know when you were young like now it's you have to buy a 150
15:07costume for your kids i'm sure the both of you are dealing with ours was pretty cheap this year
15:12actually i mean a four-year-old it's not too expensive i'm sure as he gets older it'll be more
15:16pricey amazon all right there you go good luck with the costume all right go get it good luck
