00:00There have been times where I've just went raw, none of the effects.
00:03It also has my signature Seymour Duncan pickup in it.
00:06It's called a machete.
00:07Because Mio always hits it, and now there's nothing for him to hit.
00:30So how's everybody doing?
00:37I am Dino Cazares from Fear Factory, and we're going to give you a quick gear run-down.
00:43So I know over the years, a lot of people have been asking me what I've been using live.
00:48I've been using Kemper for a long time, but I went through all the different devices over the years.
00:53I started with Line 6 back in 1999.
00:56I was not using any cabs on stage.
01:00I was going direct to the house.
01:02I used the head first.
01:04I think it was called the HD1 head.
01:08And then, of course, later on, we went into the rack mount systems.
01:13So I was using that since 1999, and I fell in love with those systems because I liked all the tones.
01:18I liked how tight it was, how it reacted when I played.
01:21Because a lot of people know that I do a lot of staccato riffing, really fast riffing.
01:25And those amps seemed to really work really well for what I was doing.
01:30And at that time, I noticed that there was not really anybody at the time doing that.
01:36There might have been people.
01:37But in the metal world, where I'm from, everybody was just using these major stacks and two, three different heads, four heads, ten heads.
01:46Everybody was using all that stuff.
01:48And I was just going direct to the first profiling stuff with Line 6.
01:54Of course, over the years, I've used other devices.
01:57But I've stuck with Kemper for a while now, for maybe more than ten years.
02:03And I really fell in love with the system.
02:05Now I've got the Kemper Profiler 2, which is great.
02:11It's a great upgrade.
02:13So my system is really simple.
02:16Over the years, yeah, I used to have heads.
02:19But one of the reasons why I switched to the digital amplifiers is because my head got stolen.
02:26My 1986 JCM Marshall head that was modified by a guy named Alon.
02:33It got stolen in, actually, 1998.
02:36We were on tour with System of a Down, Fear Factory, Head PE, Spine Shake, and Static X.
02:43And during that tour, it got stolen.
02:45So I went to Guitar Center, and I was looking for stuff.
02:47And I found Line 6, and that's when I started using it.
02:51So that was the reason why I went that direction.
02:54And over the years, I used to use a lot of pedals.
02:57You know, distortion pedals, delay pedals, chorus pedals, reverb, noise gates.
03:01I used to use all that stuff.
03:03But over the years, you know, because of the music we play, it's pretty intense.
03:07A lot of kids jumped on stage.
03:08They were doing stage drives.
03:09And everybody would hit that pedal.
03:11Would hit those pedals.
03:12I'm like, man, if there's only a way I can get rid of all this stuff.
03:16And so I have.
03:17You know, for the last, you know, 30 years, I got rid of it.
03:20And I've been using everything for us now is controlled by the laptop.
03:26So we have a laptop that sends all the MIDI, and it triggers to the Kemper, and it changes all my patches.
03:35So all my, you know, all my clean tones, all my, you know, different filtered tones, lo-fi tones, reverbs, delays, all that stuff is ran by the computer.
03:47And it makes it way easier.
03:50So if somebody jumps on stage, they don't hit any pedals.
03:53There's no pedals on the floor.
03:55I love that.
03:56And I love the fact that the computer runs everything, runs the whole show, all our click tracks, our in-ear systems, all our patches, all the vocal patches for all the delays and effects that he uses live.
04:09The computer triggers all that, and it works out just amazing.
04:13I'll show you a little glimpse of what I use.
04:15My stuff is pretty simple.
04:17It fits in a four-space rack, and it's easy.
04:20I take it anywhere.
04:21I take it everywhere, all over the world.
04:23I travel.
04:24It's lightweight.
04:26It's compact.
04:28It's cheaper on flights because we travel all around the world.
04:32And to have my tones that I've created over the years in one system is great.
04:41You know, a lot of people know about this stuff, and that's great.
04:43But some fans out there don't know how we travel or how we use all this equipment.
04:49But, yeah, it's great for flights because you don't have to pay a lot for your flight, and you have your tone everywhere you go.
04:55So that's amazing.
04:56Also, I use Shure wireless systems, and it's all one space, so everything fits in a four-space rack, which is pretty small.
05:06It's not that big.
05:07And, of course, we'll get into the guitars later.
05:09But first, let's check out this quick little system.
05:11This is the new Kemper.
05:16It's the Kemper 2.
05:17It's amazing.
05:18I profiled all my tones that I've had over the years, all my old-school Marshalls, Mesa Boogies, and thousands of other ones that you can get online and anywhere else.
05:27But I just have the stuff I created on here.
05:31Okay.
05:31Now, in the back, you can't really see, but I'll show you really quick.
05:36So it's kind of hard to see back here.
05:38There's kind of really no light.
05:40But this little MIDI cable here goes to the back of the Kemper, straight into the computer, and the computer MIDI triggers all the patches for my tones, which is great.
05:54But, like I said, I don't have to use anything on stage, no pedals, nothing.
05:58It does all the effects, all the switching here for me, so it works out perfect.
06:02For this tour, the tones that I'm using is my main tone, main rhythm tone, which has a little bit of reverb in it just to give a little bit of wider effect.
06:11We're using the clean tones for certain songs.
06:14I use clean guitar.
06:16I use a lo-fi effect, which is kind of like all the low-end, roll-down.
06:19It sounds like AM radio type of thing.
06:20That's just for effect, to make it sound small.
06:24Then when the main rhythm tone kicks in, it sounds big again.
06:27That's just for a certain effect.
06:29And I just use a little delay on certain spots, and I use chorus on a few spots.
06:35So, yeah, those are my main effects that I'm using on this tour.
06:39There have been past tours where I've used like 12 different effects for every little thing, yeah.
06:44I want to recreate what I used on the records, you know.
06:47There have been times where I've just went raw, none of the effects.
06:52But, you know, ever since we've been using the laptop for the past, can't tell how many, 10 years plus, and triggering all this stuff, it's worked out better.
07:02Because it sounds better to the, closer to the album.
07:05So, this is, this is my Shure wireless that I'm using.
07:09It's a ULX-D4D, and it has two wireless systems here.
07:16One of them is for guitar, one of them is for Milos vocals, all right.
07:19We also have the, I can't even read it, but it's the, it's the battery charger for all these inner, inner systems.
07:30Where is the inner system?
07:31Oh, it's right here.
07:32This one.
07:33And this one has four inner systems and one.
07:36This is also Shure.
07:38It's one of the new Shure systems that came out this year.
07:41These are all the batteries for the battery packs that we use.
07:44So, we have everything, everything, everything that we use for the show is in this 14-space rack right here.
07:51Which is really easy because it gets rolled on stage, rolled off stage, and it's pretty quick.
07:55So, this is my signature series put out by a company called Ormsby, which is based out of Perth, Australia.
08:02And we released these seven-string guitars about five years ago.
08:08They've done very, very well.
08:09This is the D-manufactured guitar.
08:10And it also has my signature Seymour Duncan pickup in it.
08:14It's called the Machete, which will be coming out December 2nd, this year, 2025.
08:21So, this is my signature series guitar.
08:24Now, one of the things about this is that when I play live, you know, we have a new singer named Milo.
08:30And he likes to swing his arms a lot.
08:33A lot of times he hits, he hits my, my tuning keys, and they go out of tune.
08:38So, lately, what I've changed to, I've been changed to the headless guitars.
08:48So, this is basically pretty much the same body as what the guitar just showed you, except it has this part cut out for the tuning keys, right?
08:55It also still has my signature pickup.
08:57Also using D-Aderio NYXL strings, 10 to 59.
09:03And, again, it's headless.
09:05Now, obviously, I think I just explained to you why I use headless.
09:09Because Milo always hits it, and now there's nothing for him to hit.
09:13So, it doesn't go out of tune.
09:14So, that's one of the reasons why I've been using these headless slides.
09:17Also, they're constructed very well.
09:19A guy named Perry Ornsby makes these guitars, and they're just amazing.
09:23Of course, it has my glow-in-the-dark DC logo.
09:26So, and I also have the stripes here so I can see it better at night.
09:31So, it's great.
09:32Love it.
09:33This tuning is, it's B standard.
09:36So, it's, the low one is B, and the rest of these are E standard.
09:40So, it's B standard.
09:41Also, this is the 8-string guitar.
09:44It's also built by Perry Ornsby.
09:48And, it's a great construction.
09:49And, of course, no head.
09:52So, a lot of people would ask me,
09:53Why did you play, why are you playing headless guitarist?
09:55Why, why?
09:56Well, I just explained to you why.
09:58My singer likes to fling his arms, and he hits the tuning keys, and they go out of tune.
10:02So, this avoids all that.
10:04There's a classic video at the Whiskey A Go-Go,
10:07one of our first shows, where the first song,
10:10it was out of tune,
10:11because Milo hit the headstock,
10:13and it was out of tune,
10:14and I had to, like, try to, you know, tune it while I was going live.
10:16But, that's, that's the reason.
10:19Now, I've been using these,
10:22there's a couple different picks that I use right now.
10:25This one is a,
10:27I'm not even sure what brand it is.
10:29This comes from Poland,
10:30and they're Sharp Picks.
10:33I've been using these a lot, lately,
10:35for the past few years,
10:36and I like them because you get more definition out of the pick, right?
10:42But, a lot of people can't use them because
10:44they don't really glide off the pick that well.
10:47And, it kind of,
10:47it kind of gets stuck on the string.
10:50So, you got to be really precise with it.
10:52It's great for recording.
10:54I've been using it live a lot.
10:56But, lately, I've been using these.
10:59And, the reason why I've been using these,
11:01it's a different material,
11:02and it sounds brighter.
11:04And, I need a little bit of brightness out of my pick.
11:07So, these are kind of, like, semi-sharp.
11:09They're made by Dunlop,
11:11and this is what I've been using at the moment.
11:13So, there you go.
11:14These are the Ultimate Ears.
11:16Joe, out of North Hollywood, makes these.
11:21And, they're amazing.
11:22I love them.
11:22And, I've been using them for the past,
11:24I can't even tell you how many years I've been using them.
11:27But, I've got some new ones made
11:28for these past two years.
11:32And, it has my logo on it.
11:34The DC logo.
11:35And, they're great,
11:36because it blocks out everything.
11:38And, it actually makes,
11:40it actually helps us to play a lot tighter
11:41when you have inners in there.
11:43A lot of people don't like them,
11:44because they can't hear the crowd,
11:46or they can't hear the ambience.
11:48And, that's fine.
11:49But, I like it to where I can just hear it precisely.
11:51So, I know.
11:52If I mess up, I really know.
11:54I know.
11:54Go to fearfactory.com for everything.
11:57Go to my Instagram, Dino Cazares.
11:59But, one thing I didn't tell you about,
12:02was I have all my tone packs that are coming out
12:05on a company called Chop Tones,
12:07which will be out September 27th.
12:10And, you can get all my tones
12:12from all the different records.
12:13So, from Soul of the Machine,
12:15to D-Manufactured,
12:16to Obsolete,
12:18to Digi Mortal,
12:20GeneXus,
12:21you know, Mechanized,
12:23Aggression Catanium,
12:25and on GeneXus.
12:27And, you can get all the tones there.
12:28You can be able to download them all,
