00:00Vice President J.D. Vance says the White House is working to arrange a meeting between President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
00:16Speaking on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures, Vance called the possibility of Putin agreeing to sit down with Zelensky a major breakthrough.
00:26One of the most important logjams is that Vladimir Putin said that he would never sit down with Zelensky, the head of Ukraine, and the president has now got that to change.
00:36Trump and Putin are scheduled to meet this Friday in Alaska.
00:40But Vance says the White House is exploring options for a meeting that would also include Zelensky.
00:46We're at a point now where we're now trying to figure out, frankly, scheduling and things like that around when these three leaders could sit down and discuss and end to this conflict.
00:55Last week, during a press briefing, President Trump suggested land swaps could be part of a peace deal in order to end the war.
01:03We're going to get some switched. There'll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both.
01:11But Zelensky pushed back against the idea, saying on social media, Ukraine will not give Russia any rewards and that Ukrainians will not give up their land.
01:22He also said any deal made without Ukraine's direct involvement is, quote, a decision against peace.
01:29Looking ahead, the NATO Secretary General called the upcoming summit a test of Putin's intentions to end the war.
01:36What will happen on Friday is testing Putin by President Trump.
01:41And I commend him for the fact that he organized this meeting. I think it is important.
01:45And U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said Zelensky could still be invited to the talks Friday.
01:52But that decision rests with President Trump.
01:55Obviously, the decision is going to be made by President Trump.
01:58You know, he agreed to meet with President Putin in Alaska on Friday.
02:03And if he thinks that that is the best scenario to invite Zelensky, then he'll do that.
02:10Thanks for watching our news update for more details on the Trump administration's latest remarks heading into a potential high stakes meeting Friday with Putin.
