00:00The U.S. Space Command has landed on a new home after years in Colorado.
00:07Seven years in the making. As you know, this has been going on for a long period of time.
00:12The U.S. Space Command is moving to Huntsville, Alabama.
00:15This move will save the taxpayers $480 million. It's not going to cost more. It's going to cut
00:24$480 million. In a statement, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey celebrated the decision
00:29saying, as I have said all along, there is no better place to locate Space Command headquarters
00:35than in Huntsville, Alabama. Today, the facts prevailed and it is official. Space Command
00:40headquarters is coming to Sweet Home, Alabama. U.S. Space Command monitors satellites,
00:46defends missile warning systems, and protects global communications. With China and Russia
00:51expanding their space capabilities, officials say the command's location is critical to national
00:57security. Whoever controls the skies will control the future of warfare.
01:01The announcement reverses a Biden-era decision. Space Command was reactivated in 2019, temporarily
01:08housed in Colorado Springs, and identified Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville as the preferred site in 2021.
01:15In 2023, the command was expected to stay in Colorado to avoid disrupting military readiness.
01:22Colorado Governor Jared Polis said the move will weaken national security, waste taxpayers' money,
01:28and inconvenience military families, calling for transparency on the decision.
01:33Trump cited frustration with Colorado's mail-in voting and past election issues as reasons for the move,
01:40claiming they contributed to crooked elections. Huntsville, known as Rocket City, is a high-tech hub
01:47with the nation's second-largest research park and the U.S. Space Rocket Center, home to Space Camp.
01:53Redstone Arsenal, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, and the Army's Space and Missile Defense Command
01:59have made Huntsville central to America's military and space programs.
02:03Trump also said the move to Alabama will create more than 30,000 jobs and bring billions in investment
02:10to the state. Read the full story right now on the Straight Arrow News mobile app or head to san.com.
