00:00The U.S. Supreme Court has been asked to overturn gay marriage.
00:06Former Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis spent nearly a week in jail for refusing to issue
00:11marriage licenses to gay couples back in 2015. She's now appealing that verdict,
00:16arguing the decision to extend marriage rights to same-sex couples was, quote,
00:21egregiously wrong and deeply damaging. The Obergefell v. Hodges decision from the high
00:26court granted marriage rights to same-sex couples a decade ago. Obergefell was not grounded in the
00:32nation's history or traditions, nor could it have been because it was not rooted in any nation's
00:37history or traditions. The petition reads, Davis's appeal was rejected by all lower courts she brought
00:43it to, and legal experts don't expect the Supreme Court to take up her case either. Not a single
00:49judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals showed any interest in Davis's rehearing petition, and we
00:54are confident the Supreme Court will likewise agree that Davis's arguments do not merit further
00:59attention. William Powell, attorney for the now-married couple that sued Davis, told ABC News.
01:04The next Supreme Court session is set for October. For Straight Arrow News, I'm Lauren Keenan.
