00:00That's right, but not in Emerald City, in Sin City. More than 120,000 tickets have been sold
00:11for a new immersive rendering of The Wizard of Oz at the Las Vegas sphere, according to CNBC.
00:20Let the joyous news be spread, the wicked old witch at last is dead.
00:24The original film was released back in 1939, so you can imagine the technological upgrades it needed.
00:32In a recent promotional video, The Sphere takes viewers behind the scenes of this ambitious project.
00:43At Sphere Studios, the team did just that, rescoring the original soundtracks to take
00:48advantage of the venue's immersive audio tech. Since opening in 2023, The Sphere has been a
00:55technological marvel, redefining what entertainment venues can be. We're talking a 160,000-square-foot
01:03LED screen, plus speakers built into the seats for the full experience. And with a screen that
01:08massive, it wasn't just the sound that got a makeover, the visuals needed one too.
01:13The visual effects supervisor spoke on CBS Sunday morning about using AI to expand the original film's
01:20square frames for The Sphere's panoramic format. But did I mention it's a 4D experience? Wind and fog
01:27effects will take viewers along the ride, including on Dorothy and Toto's trip to Oz.
01:32Tickets are on sale now, starting at $104. And The Sphere is ready to take fans down the yellow brick road,
01:40starting opening night on August 29th. The venue expects to hit 200,000 tickets sold by then,
01:46but don't worry. If you're looking to follow the magic, there are more than 400 screenings
01:51scheduled through March 2026. With Straight Arrow News, I'm Kennedy Felton. Download our app or visit
