00:00McDonald's has left a powerful lobbying group over a disagreement on tipping policies.
00:07So right now there's an uneven playing field between if you are a restaurant that allows tips or has tips as part of your equation,
00:15you're essentially getting the customer to pay for your labor.
00:19McDonald's wants an end to the tipped minimum wage.
00:22That allows restaurants or bars with tipped workers to pay those workers less per hour than a restaurant like McDonald's,
00:29which does not have tipped workers.
00:32If it's a hamburger place and they're using full-service restaurant tipped workers,
00:37then they're saving a whole lot of money in their wages, right, that McDonald's can't save.
00:44So that's, you know, so it's a competitive advantage that McDonald's is speaking out about.
00:48The National Restaurant Association is a powerful lobbying group for the industry.
00:53McDonald's has now left that group over their support of the tipped minimum wage.
00:57It's been a years-long issue.
00:59Perhaps because of other, you know, economic forces, especially getting over COVID and since COVID
01:08and increases in the supply chain of food and increases in beef prices and that type of thing,
01:16that, you know, they've had to increase their prices.
01:18And perhaps that divide has grown even larger over time.
01:23McDonald's recently suffered their worst sales decline since 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic.
