00:00Britain's ambassador to Washington is out after new documents revealed his ties to Jeffrey Epstein ran deeper than anyone admitted.
00:09Peter Mandelson, a longtime Labor Party figure and close ally of Tony Blair, was removed immediately.
00:16The Foreign Office says emails show his relationship with Epstein was materially different from what he disclosed at the time of his appointment.
00:24One of those emails from 2008 shows Mandelson appearing to advise Epstein to fight his conviction.
00:31Prime Minister Keir Starmer initially backed him but reversed course under pressure from his party.
00:37In an interview with The Sun, Mandelson expressed sympathy for Epstein's victims, calling Epstein a charismatic criminal liar and saying he regrets maintaining the relationship.
00:46Meanwhile, in Washington, Senate Republicans narrowly blocked an effort from Democratic leader Chuck Schumer to force the Justice Department to release Epstein files.
00:56The vote was 51 to 49.
00:58Two Republicans, Rand Paul and Josh Hawley, sided with the Democrats.
01:03Schumer accused the GOP of enabling cover-ups.
01:06Majority Leader John Thune dismissed the move as a stunt.
01:09And in the House, Republican Congressman Thomas Massey is still two signatures short of forcing a vote on a similar measure.
